Stand strength - just thinking

I have to admit I took great pride and joy building my stand for my 45 cube, but as I continue to do research for my upgrade, I'm seeing more pictures of the Elos stands which are a fraction of the build that I have used to hold up my current tank. Elos is considered top notch, and I have read that you have to use their stand for warranty purpose (like all tanks), but I'm still amazed that most of us go about building stands with 2x4 and plywood skins, when the largest of the tanks Elos and other company's are selling are just held up with 3 boards of MDF or possibly plywood.

I'm not suggesting to lessen anyone's build,if I had to build one again, I'd do it the same way. I'm just amazed so little support can carry so much weight. I think 120 gallons of water weighs roughly 1200 lbs.

Take a look at the old Oceanic Tech stands for a 120. It is, I would say 60-75% glass.

Going from a deep blue stand to a custom built solid oak stand, I'll stick with the latter. I found someone in NY who built my stand to the way I wanted it which was almost the same amount as the marineland Monterey stands(and that was almost at cost). I rather have a solid stand with over a ton on it, and sleep well at night.

I have the Elos stand and I really don't worry about it at all. There is no wobble or anything that looks cheap about it. Is is built like a tank with metal and solid woods? No but I never go to bed worrying about it. The old stand on my 57g on the otherhand, that was cheap.
