We light both of our tanks from 2pm to midnight, give or take. Our halides are on for about 6 hours and our PC whites (on the other tank) are on for 8 hours.

You also need to factor in when you will be looking at your tank. The fish and corals won't know what time of day it is.

My lights start coming on @ 3 and shut off by 1

Yea definately. So you have your actinics (blue) come on an hour before and stay on an hour after your white lights? I heard this creates the effect of sunsetting/rising type of deal.

Going back to your aquamend question I never used the one shown above.
Id only use something that says reef safe. I went with:

They have a lot of great products. I would reccomend getting the kit they sell. I first bought the glue, then realized a few weeks later how much the epoxy and plug disks would come in handy.
I wish I had just known the kit existed and bought that 1st (cheaper then all the indiv products separatley)

Hello there,

I do an 8 an 10 hour timed lighting with a 14 hour moonlight.

actinics - 11am to 9pm
pc whites - 12pm to 8pm
moonlights 8pm to 12pm

So far so good. I get to see the tank most of the time on my schedule and I get to enjoy the night life from 9pm on. Good Stuff.

I got an email back from the company i bought the aquamend from and they told me that its NOT safe until AFTER it cures so i guess im not using it. I will probably go to the pet store and get some or order the one Twan posted. This is the second week i have had the tank now and ammonia and nitrites are still zero. Nitrates are probably between 5-10. I will probably do a water change in a couple days. Im also guessing im done or never had a cycle. I still have brown stuff on the sand and rocks but it does seem to be clearing slowly.

Anyone know what snails are the best that i should get? Ive heard of astrea, nassarius, nerite, mexican turbos, etc. Stuck on which ones i should definately look for.

I took new pictures too. I have a picture of clear bubbles on my rock that i dont know what it exactly is. And i also found what seems to be like a tiny feather duster. Will it eventually grow bigger because its so small now. Dont know any other way to upload pictures so they have to be tiny for now.

Hey Hey, Tank is looking sharp! Good Luck with it! So rewarding ain't it? As for the snails I have always had good luck with nassarius. They do a really nice job at cleaning things up. However, once you are out of food, well so are they. There are other types no doubt and someone will tell you something else. Just get 1 of each and see who cleans the best. :) Excellent work CONSTANTNE

Great setup..love the aquascape!!! Thanks for providing the step by step progress. I enjoy following it along with mynd's

Nice 'scape and feather duster you got there.
As for snails http://aquaticisland.com/ used to have free clean up crews (you pay the $20 shipping) that had 20 nass, 15 cerith, 3 margarita and about 12 hermits. I split the order in half with another local guy and it was perfect. Now it looks like the site is dead. Sad trip.

Margarita - were too big for my tank and knocked over frags a lot. I also now read they are a colder species so I wouldnt add them again.

Turbo's - ones I have seen, too large for my tank.

Astrea - seemed to work like crazy after cycle. SO lazy now!

Cerith - always working my glass and back wall.

Nass - you may not see them but they are in the sandbed working. Plus when you feed the tank its like night of the living dead!

With all that said I would get 2-3 Astrea, 3-4 Cerith, 8 nassarius, 3-4 hermits and see how it goes.

Wow if that website was up i would have done that. Im glad you picked those because i was thinking the same thing. But for a 12g I can stock that many snails?

Thats approx whats in my 12g now. If you want 1/2 the 2-3 Astrea, 3-4 Cerith, 8 nassarius, 3-4 hermits to start then add as needed.

Im trying to decide what to do with my chambers but cant seem to figure anything out. I know sooner or later i want chamber 2 o 3 (cant decide) to be a refuge with chaeto. Today i got filter floss from Walmart (hope its the right kind). I also cut pieces of plastic to cover the bottom and middle intakes because i didnt have enough surface skimming. So as for my chambers this is what it is for now
Chamber 1 - sponge on bottom - filter floss on top
Chamber 2 - temp probe
Chamber 3 - rock rubble
chamber 4 - pump and heater

Let me get some opinions on how to change things up. I dont really like the heater in chamber 4 and i hear a lot of people getting rid of the sponge too.

I was just about to reply and got a personal message and then when I got back to your post you already answered it a little.

In my back chambers I have

chamber 1 - made a holder out of egg crate which holds a hanging bag of chemi-pure elite. on top of this is a little filter floss.
chamber 2 - nothing - return hose passes through here from chiller
chamber 3 - nothing - exit hose from tank to external pump passes through here ( temporarily put 1/2 bag of carbon in here to clear up the water
chamber 4 - MJ900

With the exception of the lights there is only 8.5watts of heat in the actually tank generated from the mj900

I do not plan on doing a refuge, since I think they are more hassle then they are worth for this sized tank. A 1 gallon water change on the 10,20th and 30th of each month works just fine and I don't have to add any addition heat to the tank for lighting the refuge.

That is the proper filter floss, but only use a little as to not restrict water flow in the back chambers and the test kit is just fine.. In fact I think that is the one I use. Hey.. it works.

While I have a NC and not a AP this is how my chambers are setup.

Chamber 1 - purigen, phospad, 1 sponge, temp probe
Chamber 2 - refugium
Chamber 3 - heater and pump

As far as water changes I do 2g every week. I have not missed a week in the whole year the tank has been running.

Time for an update:

Purchased a small clean up crew two days ago. Consisted of 2 astrea, 2 cerith, 2 nassarius, and a blue legged hermit crab (atleast thats what i think they are). I will probably get a cleaner shrimp in another week or so after i do my first water change. I might buy another blue legged hermit and maybe 2 more nassarius. Here are some new pictures. The astrea and cerith seem to be growing coraline on their shells. Sometimes i cant find them because they blend in so much.

Super Nimble Nano

Can anyone identify this cluster? Its very small as you can tell

Can you say Nimble? I got the super nimble.. works pretty well too.. I still use a filter pad to get the rest though. Looks like your snails are on the move.. Mine just sleep..

Thanks for the update.
Those nimble nano cleaners are awesome, I have one too!
If I remember correctly I got my cleaner shrimp 2 weeks after my CuC. Be sure to still conduct tests once a week leading up to his purchase. After that I would try a small zoa frag or something. I waited a long time for fish.
Best of luck, good things are on the way!

If you are refering to the whitish stuffin the middle of the pic, I would guess they look like mini featherdusters - or some similar type of hydroids. Hard to tell from that pic.
