Start of my aquapod - help as i progress

Couple of observations. From the first shot, your bleaching started at the end that is away from the lights (right side). Also From the full tank shot, it seems to me that cap is in a bit of shade. Maybe it is play of light on your pic, but to me it looks that the ca is in the darkest corner of your tank, so I would not contribute the bleaching to the lights.

Now, on the first pic, there are small white filaments protruding from the right side middle of the coral. Have you observed them before? They do not look like hydroids, though thy could be algae. To me, they look more like strands of coral tissue left after breaking he coral. Have you by any chance scrapped or injured that coral in any way while cleaning the glass, fixing rocks placing other corals, etc? Caps are very, very fragile. If you have told us that you have just mounted the coral a week or so ago, then I would say that it was simply dying from injuries and possible infection from handling. But to be for two months like that, it is a bit strange. The rim on the top, is that a new growth? After two months, it should have exhibited at lest some sign of growth.

Can that that Xenia, in front of it, touch it in any way? It looks like it can't but just make sure.

I lost a leather coral when it turned all soft an mushy ... wish I had read this thread first.

Another good reality reef TV ...I need to work more read your threads less, you and mynd have me hooked today.

Anyone tell me how they get good night pictures?
I tried last night to take a pic of a night crab...hitchhiker sort maybe 5mm...I get flash and white flash of a picture.

I don't use a flash and usually you can get a picture. However, and I am not even sure it is possible without some type of filter, you will never get what you see in real life in a photo under actinics.. They all stink.. Again, unless you have some type of filter.

sometimes they are ok - but still lack any type of truth

like I said.. eh, nothing like they are in person.. need better camera options..

Hey Mladencovic, Thanks for the long reply. Its tought getting people to even post a couple words on threads. To be honest, when i was mounting that cap a piece broke off!!! So your saying that would have been the reason for it dieing? The xenia is back to life and pulsing i move it to another location.

When taking photos of your tank you need to turn off the flash and bump the iso as far up as you can! Be aware though that some cameras dont really give you settings like that.

...
That could be one reason if the wound did not heal properly and there was infection. How long did it pass between the injury/mounting and when it started receding?

Tiny update. Just did a 2G water change today. Had a small cyano outbreak on my sand but between the 2g water changes weekly and siphoning it i can say its gone. I added purigen also just to be on the safe side. Changed the aquascape a bit too.

Chaeto is still alive with that led submersible light in the back chamber. Hasnt been growing much but when it was in the main display it wasnt either.

Not the best pictures. I just snapped them really quick

Thanks! I wanted a frag rack but nothing big so I made this using the suction cups from my maxi-jet. Works like a charm!
I avoid using suction cups. Sooner or latter they all lose the suction and fall.

But these are super suction cups!! I get worried about it falling but its been fine for close to a month. Maybe later on ill fix it.

maybe later consider a pair of those magnets...lucky my wife doesn't look thru this forum - if she saw how nice a tank can be done with such a small tank I may not have gotten the upgrade I wanted! lol! ;D

The tank is looking sweet Constantne!

I have found that both my Kenya and Xenia are always the first to get unhappy when water quality starts to slip. Also doesn't seem to take much to upset them,a slight temp or PH swing, overdue water change, time for new floss.....
They are good first sign indicators for me, if they look upset, I start checking things a bit more closely. :)

Sorry about the orange Cap. :(

Update Time. Just this week I added a 70W sunpod which was definitely a great choice. As of right now im using the glass top to reduce evaporation and stop Bam Bam and Miss Bar from jumping out.

I added another 3lbs of live rock. Let it cycle in a bucket for 2 weeks before adding it.

Was getting cyano on my substrate so I added this and it seems to be doing the job. Added great flow to the tank also.

I just re-read this entire string...the snail may either be a sundial - but more likely in my opinion to be a colonista - I've had tons of those - no harm whatsoever. Look it up and see if it matches your snail.

oh and really early on you were asking about an unknown coral hitcher...is it still in tank? it was hard to tell but looked maybe like a lesser starlet coral, Siderastrea radians - assuming you got your LR out of the atlantic...if not then forget this suggestion.

Waldo sure is neat looking...do you feed it something special? (cyclopeeze?)

Hey Phil, I didnt really look much into the snails since my zoas and other corals seem perfectly fine. If the zoas didnt open then i would start looking for them.

That coral hitchhiker ended up being the skeleton of one or so I think. I just forgot about it after I got my corals.

Oh and I love Waldo's wild pattern. He eats everything (flakes, cyclopeeze, and mysis). I probably wouldnt want him in a tank bigger than 30G because you would never see him. He comes out at feeding and night mostly.
