Start of my aquapod - help as i progress

Couldnt understand the last part of what you wrote phyl. So what your saying is to move it lower maybe? I heard they need a lot of light and with my pcs i thought putting it high would be beneficial. Also, how do people get monti caps with multiple layers because it doesnt seem like it would do it on its own.

I need to get a better picture of it anyway. Thanks for the advice

assuming your concern of your PCs light are not too bright:
may be where you got it, it was too much light? therefore the color was a bit light, you can try to leave it there, if the color continuesly light for about 2 weeks or so, you can then move it lower...

you need to mount it (NOT FLAT), with a 45 to 60 degree or so, it would then start to form multiple layers over time.

Wow thanks for that advice Malulu. So angling it up a bit will help it form multiple layers? Right now it is pretty much flat on my live rock.

yes, i discovered by mistake...
last year i rearrange all my rocks, and some of them end up with NOT flat anymore, most of them are almost 90 degree up! but i have no choice to leave them that way, after few months later, they all shows up with layer nicely.

i also heard RichT said that few months back in a meeting, if you mount them vertically, it will get the layer effect!

Has it lost color since you've had it (it looks to me like this has happened)? That would indicate to me that you've got it a bit too high in the tank. If it hasn't changed in color then I'd leave it where it is. As Dave indicated, a little verticle will help it scroll faster, but I've found that even with pieces that I have that are flat they curl and curve naturally.

It seems like its starting to curve but you be the judge on the color. Maybe i should try lowering it a bit and angling since i like the layered look. Unless of course it will happen naturally. I havent epoxied the monti permanantely yet. Also while were on the subject my yellow fiji leather STILL hasnt acllimated. Green coralline is coming in quick and im starting to see a red algae on the bottom left on the sand (forgot what its called but not cool).

Constantne,
Just curious, how long have you had the fiji? My fiji was "attacked" by my Choco chip star and looked to be at deaths door for a week or so. Today its looking better with even a few polyps extended. And the Choco star has been banished to the QT tank. ;)

The monti looks better in the latest pic also IMO. :)

Good luck!

I added the fiji a month ago. Its not melting away or oozing. The polyps are slightly extended sometimes. I just dont know what do try doing.

That is not true. Flat Montis will layer too. Montis of this type (plate forming), will try to create horizontal layer as that optimises their absorption of light. But at the same time, different parts of the coral will also compete with each other for the best position towards light and will try to outpace each outher by slightly growing upwards and thus being "closer" to the light then the "other guy". So, it is true that if you mount them under some angle then different levels will start immediately producing different layers (each level building its horizontal plate and thus having several layers). But, the same will also happen even if you put it the frag flat. Neighbouring regions of the rim of the plate will have slightly different growth rates and, at some point, one region will overtake the other and "push" the growth higher towards light and then to the sides over other layers. This grew from the frag that was 1/3 of yours (I guess) and was more flat then your frag:

Just be patient and it will grow into most amazing forms.

Green stuff is just plain algae, and red stuff is probably cyanobacteria. Normal part of process of tank maturing. Monitor your nitrates and phosphates, scoop the cyanos, make water changes, bla, bla, bla,...

Added four new frags. Thanks Wobbegong
Anyone know the names of all of these? The mushrooms have a tint of green.

I also noticed that my skunk may have eggs. How is this possible since there isnt another one in the tank.

Well aren't we special getting frags and zoa's and mushrooms.. :D Way to go G! Looking nice, only gonna get better! :) WoohOO!

ahh.....fiji is being so hard for me. Still in the same spot. Polyps wont fully extend but isnt melting or oozing and still looks firm. Thanks for the compliments

Interestingly enough Cleaner Shrimp lysmata amboinensis are in fact hermaphrodites - so if you added a second one - there is a possibility of fertilizing the eggs. There's also a possibility that the shrimp is carrying a sperm packet from previous mating.

However most likely she is carrying sterile eggs.

It is not uncommon for the shrimp to be loaded with eggs even if it is the only one in the tank. Consider them extra protein for some lucky scavenger/fish in the tank.

I added 5 new frags a couple days ago. They seem to be doing well I just cant figure out the placement for them. The colt and xenia wont say where they are so if anyone can suggest they would grow and look good i would appreciate it. oh, and Cyano is still there and wont go away! (bottom left)

Ricordia -staying on a flat rock on my sand but may be getting too my flow from hydorflo

Zoa

Colt Coral

Xenia

Frogspawn

And of course, a FTS

Again, I appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Nice pics C!

Humm, your colt looks alot like my Kenya tree LOL. Or maybe my Kenya tree is really a colt! Any who...

It seems like there is poor flow to the left from corner, no? You could add a pump in the display OR......
Perhaps you can add a "y" to the return and direct some flow there, but you will probably have to get rid of the hydor as its already cutting down the flow some as it is now. I am thinking of doing this on my Nano cube myself. Just a thought. ;D

Sweet ric BTW. 8)

That colt definitely looks like a kenya tree to me.

Tank looks great so far. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments. Oh so maybe it is a kenya tree then or they are the same thing. I really like how the hydorflo adds flow all over the tank and the cyano is moving like there is flow there. If i have flow directed on the cyano will it go away? I dont really want to add another pump right now.
