actually I am not sure that is correct ,but when searching around I kept running across that term. There really isn,t much information on the subject. that I can find anyway.Pretty much I,m talking to myself on this thread so I guess it really doesn,t matter.
i wish i still had the article, but what i see in that pic is what i was told are sweepers from a flatworm that lives under leathers. my friend had the same thing and when we read about it we found the worm on the leather. the sweeper actually comes outta the leather even though the nearly invisible worm is on the underside.....they are harmlesss. ill look for the article with the pic and post it
thanks for the info. I checked it out and in those pictures it does appear that is what i am dealing with. but they clearly come from pores in the leather. they are spaced evenly.
I looked at evreything I could find about these Ctenophores .what I have don,t really act like what i,ve read. These tentacles are from inside the underside of the leather. they are capable of grabbing my 2 inch plus maroon clown. they can,t bring him back but it does piss him off enough that he is worried about it.They are strong enough to roll my largest hermits which are bigger than a large grape.these tentacles reach into the flow side of my powerheads. They eat 8mm plus amphipods. They take mysis and brine. there are times that there are enough of them to have 100 percent coverage of my tank .The only thing they stay away from is my fairly large tube anenome.I am open to the idea of them not being of the leather but I really would like a solid alternative.
i know, it does appear to come from the coral, but dosent. . . . your pic looks 100% like the ones we found. coming from the opposite side of the leather. cant really see the worm very good. kinda gotta look for an outline bacause they are very transparent. we couldnt find them at first either .
I came home today and looked at it.maybe it is a seperate entity from the coral but to see it is a different story.the underside of the leather is speckled with brownish spots, the sweepers come from inside. tThere are noticable protrusions like veins that raise the surface of the leathers skin. These are covered with the same spots as the skin of the leather and are indestinguishable from the coral.
so i have a lobo that always has stringy things coming off it that i always associated with shedding, but then as i'm looking at it, one of the stringy things retract. i immediately think of this thread take the coral out, and upon closer inspection i see some brown spots, with a slightly raised areas within that these tendrils were coming from... so i got something pointy, went to work... and now they're gone. the lobo is hard,so it was easier, might me tougher on a softer coral, but leathers are rather resiliant, so i'm sure it would be fine
