Can your son in law come over to help with the jeep? We had to get a nurse's helper to come over for my dad. He's 93 and my mom is 91. He isn't walking to well, and looses his balance. My mom can't help him up if he winds up on the floor. The helper gets my dad in the shower, helps him out of bed and walks with him from bed to the sofa and kitchen. He spends 95% of the day sleeping.

Diana, My Son N Law doesn't know which end of a screwdriver is used to bang a nail in. He's very good and he would come if I asked.
The electrical problem in my Jeep is way over his head and needs hands on from someone who knows what he is doing. I can fix it, or I should say I could have fixed it a few years ago but I just can't twist myself into those places where I need to get to to test the problem.

You have to put test probes across every fuse to diagnose the problem and there are I think 4 or 5 fuse blocks in the car and none of them are very accessible for an old guy. I used to like to fix these problems but just can't maneuver that great now especially with a busted hip which limits my walking and twisting.

I am also afraid I may make more damage to my hip at least until I see this bone Dr. and see what the X Rays say.

This morning I have to go to someplace we all love. A colonoscopy doctor. This is a routine thing and us smart people do this every 4 years or so just for the thrill of it.

He will just talk to me today so he can bill my insurance company for an office visit then have me back for the "fun" day of the actual procedure.

Now they put you to sleep for these "exciting" procedures but years ago, I remember when you were totally awake. They don't hurt but are very uncomfortable and feels like you swallowed a 12' python who just drank 5 cups of coffee and had a bowl of Captain Crunch Cereal. :confused2:

It didn't help that there was this cute 17 year old assistant holding the "snake" as the doctor shoves it in you with an evil smirk on his face. :chagrined:

Then tomorrow I go to a bone Dr. because I think I cracked my hip which causes me to walk with a very sexy limp and with every step I yell "OUCH".

My fish are in fear because doing the simplest thing is a painful choir.

For both of these fun things I need to get someone to drive me to the doctors and my wife is also incapacitated. But, life goes on.

Oh, I tested my car after I bought a new, cheap multi meter so I could fix my two expensive but broken multimeters and my car has a 1 1/2 amp drain on the battery when I shut the car of. Thats why it goes dead and I doubt I could fix it now. :distrust:

ahhh I am overdue for my coloscopy test. I can't imagine doing it with anesthesia. I'm always a nervous Nellie with all doctor appointments.

Hope you didn't fracture your hip

Paul, it sure sounds like you have a parasitic drain/draw with your car....and every one I've worked on has either been a Jeep or Ford (Lincoln)...so I'm assuming this is your Jeep. I'd prefer the colonoscopy over trying to find a parasitic draw....they are impossible! Computerized modules that won't "go to sleep." And what makes them impossible is understanding the electrical diagrams with typically three letter acronyms for the modules/components with no idea what that module does and were you'll find that module/component in the car. You end up identifying the modules by the number of wires coming into them and the colors of those wires. I've spent multiple days tracing parasitic draws.....please, give me the colonoscopy!

That all said, I'd start by looking to see if any after-market electrical stuff was added to your car....sound system, phone system, auto start, etc. These wing-nut installers have a tendency to install this stuff on the "hot" side of the ignition switch which causes for a constant draw. Otherwise, go to a garage that specializes in auto electronics. Best of luck with your car and the colonoscopy, both of which are a pain in the a......

Paul It is a drain of 1 1/2 amps. Pretty high. Yes, it's one of my Jeeps. I checked the only aftermarket thing I installed which is a camera. That ain't it. I normally pull fuses until the drain goes away. But the thing has about 4 fuse panels and all of them are in a place I can't access right now because I think I cracked my hip. Going to a hip doctor tomorrow.

I also need to replace the thermostat because the check engine light is on and the scanner tells me it is the thermostat, but it is probably the sensor connected to it. I may have to bring it to a guy because I need to inspect it in 2 weeks and I doubt I will have time and with my hip I can't bend or twist myself to where the fuses are.

I never let anyone touch my car but now, at my age, these simple fixes are a pain. I hope it isn't a diode in the alternator because you have to be Houdini to replace the thing. :confused2:

So good news. My car is fixed and it was practically free. $450.00. I thought it would be at least a grand and I wouldn't have done that job for $450.00, that includes the State Inspection.

He said they fixed the drain but I doubt it. He said it is the windshield camera that I installed. That thing is designed to stay on because if the car gets bumped, it automatically records but I think it hardly uses any power when the car isn't running.

So now, I will look for a circuit that is dead when I shut off the car. I am pretty sure the car will go dead again but I will carry around a jumper battery for a while just to make sure.

Jeep can't fix the transmission problem on my wife's car for another week but I don't need it.

Meanwhile, my reef still looks like a produce stand and I have been using my diatom filter every day to suck out algae. I have 15 gallons of water I collected out east in the Atlantic and I will add 25 gallons of fake water to it to do a water change. I still can't walk to far (as I found out this morning when I tried to do my 2 mile walk and almost had to call paramedics to get me home after a quarter of a mile due to the pain)

And I can't lift anything heavy but I do my water changes with a pump so there is no lifting. :(

Yes Diana, the bone Doctor told me to go back to the pain Mgt doctor and get more shots. I don't need a new hip. I just had an ablation in my back and another thing on my spine where they burn some nerves in the bones in the vertribra. It's called an Intracept.

I am not sure what she will do now but when she sees me coming in, she fills her 5-gallon bucket with cortisone. :D

One of the stupid nerves in my spine goes over your sacroiliac near your hip to make you think you need a new hip.

I will try soaking it in Coppersafe for a few days. Most of me works perfectly and if you get to my age and don't have all these pains and didn't break a bunch of bones and tear all sorts of things, and have a few parts replaced, you didn't have enough fun in your life or work hard enough. :eek2:

Diana, thank you for asking.

Diana, It;s cold here also in Long Island. I actually like it when it is very cold, raining or snowing real hard. Thats MAN walking.

I don't like it when it is drizzling or just snow flurring, that is for Sissies.

I got all dressed up for my walk this morning at 6:15 and just about made it to my front door before my leg starting to collapse from the pain.
I need this thing fixed and don't have time for all this nonsense. My walks are important to me especially if I want to keep my Manly figure. :D
