Twan's NanoCustoms 3.24 12g

Hey Merv Rubiano. Yeah I been on EVONY for a long long time. Still a moderator over there but not involved in too many meets cause everytime I see new parts I have to buy! Not good since im planning a wedding and a home purchase.

Thanks for the compliment on the tank. It's fully stocked now. I am going to enjoy it the way it is till I move next spring.

Tank is probably at its lowest point after the Xenia incident.
It can only get better from here I guess.

After the Xenia incident the back wall this is all that’s left of it

I never realized your aquascape is similar to mine. I may redo it though to try to get more space for coral. BTW, how is that hydor flow?

Bugger all :-\ I was typing and went back to check something you had written and thought I opened a new window and closed it. lol Anyhew, glad to see the tank is progressing nicely.. Glad to hear everything is going well. We definitely need more update photos though :) You know how much I love those. FTS FTS..

Nice work Twan! Keep on rollin.. :D

My zoa’s and ric’s started to extend so it was defiantly time to change out the lights. Last time (1st bulb change) I went for 9 months and noted how much the bulbs had dimmed. I wanted to change them at 6 months this time but 2 weeks shy of 6 months things needed to be replaced ASAP. Have a look

I wanted to replace them with the same type, the Nanocustoms 10k but they were out of stock so I went with the JBJ 10k . As you can see not only was the NC bulb pretty faded but also I don’t think it’s a good comparison cause it was never as blue as the JBJ bulb even when new.

I replaced the actinic and one 10k right off the bat. The other 10k I will replace next week as to not totally shock the corals. The tank is already looking a lot better but as noted above………..it is bluer. Time will tell if I like it or not. Will post FTS next week after I replace the last bulb.

Wow, Thanks Twan. Lets see, I set my cube up in Jan. Hummm, Jan, Feb, Mar, April, May, June, July, Uh-oh..... :-[

Excuse me Twan, I gotta go place an order...

It happened to me too. My 1st change I waited 9 months. Now I know better and switch them every 6 months. The change above was 2 weeks shy of 6 months.....and only because I saw corals stretching towards the light.....in reality I shoulda changed out this pair at 5 months cause thats when this started. Live and learn I guess. I just wish nanocustoms had their 10k's in stock. Instead I went with JBJ's. Time will tell how long they last.

Hey Twan i just got some xenia. Is there any real way to control them? lol

Keep them off the rockwork. Maintain proper PH and no salinity swings or you risk brown jelly which killed all of mine except whats on the back wall.

Well it looks like my Cleaner Shrimp is female. See clutch of eggs:

My GSP is on the move. I need to move the cap away soon before it gets too close. I figured in the meantime why not places some plugs in the way so I can make 2 gsp frags:

The two more colorful zoa’s I had were being outgrown and overtaken by my bland ones. What I did was hack up the garden and removed two types so I can grow them out all alone. They are also getting more of their color back as a result of being moved higher in the tank.

My shrimp looked the same way 2 weeks ago. A day or two later the eggs were gone. Guess my fish had some good cavier. Anyway, I have a monti cap just like you do and im thinking if it grows too high up it may block the view of the corals in the back, unless im wrong.

Anyway, Tank is looking great. I love GSP but im afraid they would overtake my tank like you are saying and with 12g were pretty limited.

I will eventually move the cap. I am just hoping I dont have to until my move come spring. Only wanna disturb everything once. In the meantime I will keep moving frag plugs in and out of that area and make baby GSP's. The rock that the GSP is now on has been moved away from other rocks, stranded!

Nice Twan!
Isn't it funny how stuff can grow like crazy for someone and not at all for others?

I have had a frag of GSP and also Xenia in my cube and both have remained basically the same size for months!

On a side note Twan, I ordered replacement bulbs from Nanotuners last week and even though the sight said they were out of stock, they shipped them Monday.

How do you like the JBJ bulbs so far?

I had two 10k and one actinic both made by nanocustoms originally (as they tell me on the phone their custom bulbs are actually made by finnex) at first. I am still running a nanocustoms actinic but with two JBJ 10ks since they were out of stock.

They looked a lot bluer on first install and I didnt like it as much. I gave it a week and they burnt in and I dont see much of a difference between the JBJ and NC ones to be honest. They are good. Now to see and chart lifespan of JBJ versus Nanocustoms.

Water changes and thats cleaning the glass.
I am moving in the Spring so I just plan to do maintenance till then.
The hammer has gotten so many more heads that it is casting a shadow over the ric's and zoas's. Im gonna sell 1/2 of the hammer I think.

Update time. Nothing new just 2g a week water changes.

Frag that I cut out of my zoa garden. I am growing this out to sell (along with a tiny purple mushroom). 8 greens / 2 Pinks:

I had to relocate my torch cause of encroaching GSP. Here it is remounted and opening bigger then it used to:

Updated shot of my Green Palys. Went from 6 heads to approx 10:

Here are two new shots of my Orange Monti Cap. It’s doing really well. You can see the new layers growing out the back from the profile shot:

Ohh yeah almost forgot. If the hammer looks 1/2 the size from my last update thats because I cut and sold half of it.
It was getting too big for the tank and shading other light deprived corals.
