If you're going to go to Tropiquarium then I recommend a stop at Reefs to Reptiles also. They are just north of Trop on the opposite side of the street. It's a smaller store but they have a lot of great frags and some of the less common fish and inverts too. Definitely worth stopping in.
thankyou so much! that makes three shops for me now! that sounds like a shop id like. i really want to get alot of the corals for our big tank now so that i can really rock scape it for them instead of guessing what might work. i guess ill be picking up a frag rack too. im really looking forward to my next tank and doing it with some guidance and opinions. ive had sicklett tanks for years and thougth salt would be a breeze. in a way it is, but that learning curve gets you. unless you have big buks from the getgo, most i would imagine go through quite a few tanks and equipment before they finally do it right and get the tank that wont be upgraded. hopefully this build does save in the long run, cuz im about to bite the big bullet. ;D

What type of frag rack you looking for? Some egg crate and acrylic can make you a simple rack that hangs on the edge of your tank.

Here's 2 that I made for my tanks. They can be made in any size you want them.

If you are going to take the state tour, hit up Aqua Obsession and Ocean Gallery II. They are about an hour north of trop and reef to reptiles. If you want to go crazy, drive up to NYC spend the night there and take your time coming home hitting the fish stores.

i definitly want to stop at OG2, i stopped there for about 5 min on my way home from a job one day. AO is added to the list. we are thinking of staying in New Hope for the night. we will be doing alot of driving for 2 days, but i think it'll be worth it. are there any reefsafe fish that fancy the damn web shooting worms? these things are bugging the heck outta my zoas and leathers. i cant seem to get them with tweezers

I THINK a wrasse would take care of those. You can get some really nice ones that are reef safe and would fit in your tank.

ill have to do some research and see what i find. i dont have any wrasses yet so i guess its a good time to find a few.

Come to think of it I have not seen any in my tank since I got a 4 line wrasse. Could be that he took care of them.

thanks! ive come across several wrasses that can all be hit or miss but more so on hte hit side. 4 and 6 line, and a few more i forgot names of. i spent most of the morning plugging as many tubes as i could with epoxy. i counted close to 100. i think im gonna try out a wrasse once this storm passes. do any of you have experience with dragon wrasses? i have heard good and bad and have been interested in getting one but cant get rid of the learyness

I'd avoid the dragon wrasse, they don't call them rock moving wrasses for nothing. They will completely redecorate your tank. Not to mention the fact they get huge and nasty.

i guess i should think different wrasses then...they are really neat looking though.

The juveniles look neat, but the adults are rather plain looking. They lose most of their colour and don't have all the extra skin frills either.

ok, so no dragon wrasse. i was planning to go to some shops today but have some emergency pool service today. my wife decided she wants to go by herself and pick out some corals.....Im nervous! i think my wallet is about to break!...lol...she has real expensive taste and has some real nice corals in her bullseye that she saw online. favia,dendro,blasto...i have a feeling she is gonna come back with alot. is it possible to put in too many corals at one time? i know fish affect bioload, but do corals? say like 10 or so?

well, today i went to the new world pet center that was recommended by a few of you. i got lucky and the coral road trip is post poned till next weekend. back to today. thanks for the referral to the lfs in somerspoint. the owner was really helpful and i enjoyed talking to him. he spoke very highly of several of you. we didnt get any corals today because, to be honest i got a little nervous when i saw his fish tanks. i did like a few of the corals he had and may return to get them tommorrow. he started talking about vodka dosing and its something ive never heard of. i can and will research it, but would like some opinions on it if any of you that are visiting use it. i dont have any probs with my tank and all parameters are up to par but he said its good to do regardless. i would really appreciate some input on it. what benefits do my corals reap from it?
my test today was
alk-9
cal-470
mg-1300
ph-8.3
sal-.025
temp-77.5 (pretty constant)
trates-undetectable
amm-0
phos-0

In a nutshell vodka dosing is adding food for the beneficial bacteria in your tank which causes them to increase their numbers and drop all of your "bad" parameters. A lot of people have had great success with it but I would only recommend it if you did a TON of reading beforehand. It is also for people who are keeping SPS dominated tanks (yes I know people do it with LPS as well) which if you don't have I would avoid.

Here is a great article on it:

thanks for pointing me kin the right direction. thats pretty interesting. i dont think my tank would benefit from it since i dont have phos or trates but ill keep reading. what i didnt notice in the threads is what affect it had on the tiny life like pods and stuff. do they have to go to AA after this? ;D
how long has vodka dosing been used? has it been long enough to say that there isnt any long term damage it can cause even if used properly?
