Ultra Grade Clam

I am having a difficult time finding a nice Ultra Grade Maxima or Crocea Clam. Are there any local shops that tend to carry them?

While I am in SJ, I do travel up to the North to visit family, so location in the state is not an issue.

Is it safe to say they should have some nice clams at MACNA? I have never been.

clams have been more and more restricted due to import issues.

That stated - I have seen Ocean Gallery II and Aquatic Obsessions get nice clams. If you prefer online - Dr. Mac/pacific.east.aquaculture and Clam's Direct have gotten great reviews.

as far as macna - i have never been either. I would imagine there will be a very large assortment of both dry goods and frags for sale. At our frag swap I recall at least one vendor bringing clams - and macna is supposed to be almost the same thing - except many times BIGGER.

not sure if you have ever been to that fish place in lancaster, pa. I mention it because supposedly it's retail space is about 100,000 sq ft. The place is like a costco for fish lovers (the warehouse aspect - no food sampling.. ;)). Now half the place is devoted to dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, small pets, etc. etc.

But with macna - just think 83,000 sq ft dedicated just to FO/FOWLR/REEF keeping stuff!!! All conveniently located in the convention center - connected to the hotel we have a block in. There will be a lot of people from all over the US crammed in there to check out all the goodies. I wouldn't be surprised if people get a list of vendors and check out their stuff - then pre-order it for pick up at macna.

Thanks for the input. I will keep my eye out for a nice clam at Ocean Gallery II and Aquatic Obsessions. Otherwise, I may wait until MACNA.

I think, think, think that there was a few by me at Reef Encounter. Im probably going over there tomorrow to look around, if interested PM to remind me.

Thanks Magic. They both look to be Ultra grade. I like the OGII clam, but 129 is a little steep for a clam.

I think I may wait until MACNA to see if they have a nice selection.

Thanks Audi0s for the offer. Much appreciated.

Hey guys, that's my clam in that picture from AO, it is in my tank! ;D and i guarantee that the picture does not do it justice, you should stop by to check them out, mine is the nicest clam I have ever seen!!!! And $60 clams! ;D

Rod

Alright Rod, I re-arranged my weekend schedule so I could come see these clams. So they better be good ;). And hopefully you will still have some nice ones left on Sunday. :)

dave - i think, not sure, but i think you think rod owns AO. Rod is a customer - he bought the clam already. I was there on tuesday and he had a few nice blue maximas left. That stated- you might want to call or post in the Aquatic Obsessions board to ask.

Thanks Hawkeye. You are right. I guess being new to this board and the way he phrased it made me think he was saying it was his clam at his store.

Appreciate the heads up, and I will give them a call ahead of time.

There were at least 10 when I was there tonight. Looked pretty good.

No problem-o. Under all the usernames - right underneath should be a tag. Our sponsors will have the "sponsor tag". Members will say "member" and then frag/colony etc. Non members will just have the frag/colony designation. That changes based on number of posts.

If i didn't say so - welcome to NJRC. We're glad to have you aboard.

Please note that AO is not easily seen from the road - if you are driving down that street - look for the burger king - it's in the small commercial strip next to it. AO does not need signage because almost all of it's business is word-of mouth/repeat customers...like blange3 hahah.

Thanks Phil, you let everyone know the secret that my favorite LFS is Aquatic Obsessions. ::)

No one would have ever figured that out! ;)

Thanks again...if nothing else I get to see what AO has to offer. An excuse to see another LFS is never a bad thing. :)

Obviously he doesn't know you and I don't know if you have your membership card yet. So be sure to ask if he can look up your membership. Otherwise you won't get the discount.
