hello guys, i been a member for a few i think but i never have posted that i know of..lol im humm somewhat new to reefing and saltwater period, im originally from NYC but i moved to south jersey, atlantic city area, now in mays landing about 10 years ago, got in to saltwater and reefing about 5 years ago. stared with a 20gal and fluval 205 with a sunpod 250watts mhl
i have the worst luck or i dunno.. but i consider my self a fish/coral killer with in the first year i had to kill about 20-30 fish and about 15 corals under the 20gal. then i upgraded to a 56gal and i did better, i still lost fish and coral but i had a few that lasted i had then a fluval 405 for this tank, after about a year or 2 (pretty recently maybe like 6-7 months) i switched to a 110extra high tank i drilled holes in it and bought a super sump 36gal i also bought a red sea c-skimmer 1800 and i added a mag24 as my return pump, wile im at it i added light coralite 2x250 with 2x96 watt pc ethenics
well after i transfer every thing to it i had dies off so i was rdy to give up on it, till i decided to be patience (more then before) im planing on removing this ligh and switching it to LED's soon i hope. my blennie just die but i had him for 5 years and i was told they only last 3-4 years.
so far im taking it easy not buying any corals other the few shrooms i got in the tank now. no more fish either till i get everything i need and want.
just wanted to post all this here so ya know who im and how stupid or ignorant im really.
Sounds like you've been a good customer to Ocean Aquarium. Lots of good advice here, don't be afraid to ask questions, the only stupid one's are those that aren't asked. Although I live up near Philly now, I lived and raised my family in Atlantic County, so I know your neighborhood. It must have been something of a culture shock moving from NYC to the "Pinies". Pictures??
god moving from NYC to here is like moving from a city to a village,, lol i still remember when they told me i couldnt go out to eat at 2am cause everything was close,,smh
i neva been to ocean aquariums to tell u the truth i been going to pets pluss, i really havent put down the cash into anything big and fancy coral/fish wise, cause in my gut i can feel my tank or ME its not ready for it. maybe cause i killed so many of them,, i learned a lot thou with all this killing but i know there its a better way, i just have to learn more.
My name's Adam. I'm a lapsed member from a few years back, I'll have to check my post count after this goes up to see if I've ever posted here before. Back in my old apartment, I had a 70 and a 110 system, but the 110 crashed and I didn't have the heart to try to get it running again. When I bought my house, I set the 110 back up and transferred the inhabitants from the 70 there. It's been a struggle getting the tank right, but I think I'm on the road to having my problems licked. It's got me more excited about the hobby than I've been in a few years, so I'm back to the forums.
Mike here from Sparta. New to the saltwater side of the hobby. I haven't started with anything just yet but I'm getting that itch. Figured this was a good place to start. Anyone else from around the area?
I'm mike, from jacskson. I been around the hobby for a few years now and I'm a big acro freak. Lol. I've taken the hobby to a new level and deal with many different collectors. Hoping to share my collection to you guys soon.
Hi everyone. My name is Rob, been keeping Fresh water fish since my teens (36 now) and I just made the jump into Salt a couple of months ago. Right now I have a small 12g Nano cube with upgraded LED lighting mostly LPS and a couple of black oc. clowns.
I have a 90 in the garage waiting to get drilled (a little apprehensive about drilling it myself) that I will slowly be collecting all the equipment for. I have a 210 gallon Turtle tank that is fully landscaped, a 120 gallon that I have 2 other turtles in, and some "spare" tanks as well sitting dry.
I have a 40 breeder which I want to use as a sump for the 90 so long as it fits in the stand.. haven't checked yet, if not I will be using the 20 long in it's place. I spent about 2-3 years researching before I dove into the nano, so I am not planning on setting up the 90 until I have everything exactly how I want it. I plan on doing mostly base rock so I can get the rock scape exactly how I want it, dry sand, and then seeding it with some live rock. I know it will take a very long time to be ready for fish and corals, but I feel like I will have a better looking tank doing it this way.. just a personal preference thing I guess.. I really want a mantis shrimp in the tank, and eventually a mandarin probably a year or so after the tank has been up and running and it has enough live to support it.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello, and I will be lurking around soaking up knowledge.
