WTF is in my tank!!!

The only pic of a sea spider posted was not by the person with the issue, but by someone trying to help.

I would not suggest to start tearing my tank up, or dosing chemical treatments, based on the info provided thus far.

The legs were real big and looked like either a crabs or spiders. I'm going to feed brine and see if I can lure it out

if you put a piece of regular raw shrimp where you think it may be, if it is a crab I would think it would come take a look.

That said...you never know.

Could be the legs of a pistol or mantis shrimp too. Its impossible to know w/o a better description.

That's definitely a sea spider (pycnogonid). There are a lot of different ones, people's experiences have been different. Some eat things you don't care about. I know of at least one infestation of sps-eating sea spiders that required a tank teardown. Another guy had sea spiders that ate zoos. You might wait until you see a second, he might be a "loner."
I agree that interceptor might be a good way to go if it becomes a problem..

Sorry my bad, yes, I was looking at duijver 's pic, not the origninal post.
Hard to say what you saw, wor the legs definitely jointed like a crab or shrimp?

Honestly not sure if I had to guess they looked almost like a spider or crabs would the way I saw them under the rock then sweep the sand, I stayed up last night for 2 hours starring at the tank and couldn't see it again.

I think I'm going to do what 9supra suggested, I need to rearrange my corals or move them slightly anyway since they're growing huge.

P.S. I'll probably have a frag of a torch soon thing is growing out of control.

Given that site ^ I'm 90% sure it is a crab in that case. The sea spiders pictured there are smaller than a finger nail. This thing's leg was teh size of my pinky nail.

Any ideas how to get it out?

just to clarify, are you saying the leg was as long as your nail, or as wide?

One leg as wide as your nail, would be one monster crab.

I have a AccliMate, which can be used as a guillotine trap. I would use something like this, but there may be options others can suggest that would not cost you money.

As long as my nail not as wide lol.

That Acclimate looks like it'd be good, but as it is a nocturnal animal how would I keep food from spoiling inside of it and also it looks HUGE. I only have a 14g biocube with a small amount of space that I could fit the trap.

hehe ok.

The acclimate is too big for your tank.

I did not realize you only had a 14 gallon tank.

You may want to just pull the rock out after all.

Try making a trap with a bottle and a piece of chicken or something as bait with the lights off, if its carnivorous I dont think it will be able to resist, crabs are suckers for oder.

Just fill a couple buckets with water from your tank and pull some rocks out. I didn't know you han a nano I thought you had a ton of rock

Ld I make one bucket of water 1.35 salinity and put each rock in there. Only thing is my corals are on my rocks, but I'm thinking of removing them. Putting them in a bucket with tank water and then removing each rock. I think I'd prefer to do that because then I can reroxk and reposition everything.

Probably won't be able to do it until after Xmas though since I don't have a day of until after.

Brandon....You should not dip all your rocks. Just the 1 or 2 you think the crab may be in. You don't want to kill off all the critters in your tank ;)
