Anyone want that rock? Nice button polyps! Hate to see it go, but that's the way it goes, long term planning first.

Tank came with a few button polyps, and 4 little green star polyps. I'm wondering if I should take care of the green star polyps before they spread?

So it's been close to 15 years since my last reef tank which didn't end well, so I've learned and been planning this tank for a bit. I picked up a 112 gallon (60" long x 18"deep x 24"tall) from a guy on craig's list and been working my way through it. I haven't documented it very well, but I'll...
That's pretty slick, where did you get the 120v shutoff valve? I just put a water softener in, but the hot water heater is going on 7 years old and I know the salt can be brutal on old tanks. An alarm is nice, a cutoff is even better! I just have had terrible luck in the past with Normally Open...
Thanks, I think I'm going to stick with the 1" and 1/2" backup for an emergency overflow; not that this will fix the issue, but I bought an apex controller and float switches so hopefully that will provide some level of backup. I'll run a new 3/4" line from sump to get water back into the tank...
Thanks, I think that's the better route since I want a controller to start anyways... Maybe I'll just make a 3/4" return line and use the half inch as a half back up.

Yeah, 1/2 just isn't going to cut it. The glass holes kit is like 389, so was just looking at alternatives, but that's probably the way to go. Does the glass hole kit come with everything including tubing to the sump?

Yes, center overflow and 1" and 1/2", basically just meant for a single overflow and return. I can easily run a hard PVC line around the back for the return, but I don't see the 1/2" giving much assurance in a blocked situation. I could do something fancy with float switches and a controller...
So I got the tank today, and the drain is a 1", but the return only fits a 1/2" PVC through it. The wife is concerned about drilling it, I'm more concerned about clogging a pipe and overflowing. I could use the second pipe as an "emergency" pipe, but 1/2" isn't going to really save my floor if...
Thanks all, made another bid and he came down some. Nice guy, and it's quite a bit of "other" stuff, and that will get me to a reasonable place and can move up from there. I'm going to keep it dry for a month or so until I can get the plumbing done like I want. I'm hopefully going to redo the...
I put a deposit down on this 60"x 18" deepx 24" tall setup. If everything works out I should take delivery this weekend and in a few weeks I'll be back up and running. Not sure whether posting links to craigslist is allowed, and if it isn't my apologies, but wanted to get some opinions whether...
Thanks, the problem I'm running into now is how to get the water to evenly pass from one tank to the other. Basically it's a ~30-40 foot run horizontally from the main tank (and up and down 8 feet) to the remote sump, so even if I had a pump on each side getting those two to balance is going to...
Thanks, I ran a bunch of thermostat wires and ethernet cables tonight, but I'm confused, if the sump isn't below would you really pump the water 25 feet away day in, day out? I'm about to run some 1/2" pex, I just can't fit anything larger in between the 2x4s. I'm worried that running a sump...
Thanks, I have a smaller 50 pint per day unit running which keeps things dry now, but when I get the tank I'm sure that's not going to be able to keep up.
I apologize in advance, this is a repeat of my thread over on reefcentral, but I actually live in NJ, and plan on getting involved with the club. I'm in Glen Rock, near Paramus, and we've been renovating this house for the past 3 years, and just realized a month before the basement walls go up...
Hello NJRC, Similarly I'm hoping to rejoin the hobby after about a 15 year hiatus. I'm in Glen Rock, near Paramus in Bergen County. I'm in the process of finishing up the basement, so looking for a little advice on planning wiring/plumbing (I'll start another thread). It'll probably be a while...
