LED lights require very little power, DC pumps much lower. Your heater really won't be on that much. It shouldn't be noticeable. Spending on efficient gear will pay off in the end.
The last 2 weeks I have been trying to start up my refugium again. The Chaeto has been in there for 2 weeks with a light but doesn't look that good, so I decided to scrap it as it was getting very brown. In doing this the dirt trapped in it and stray pieces got lose and are now blowing all...
For a take larger than the 20gallon there are lots of things to consider. Flow rate, sections for refugium, skimmer, probes, etc etc. Could I of made my own sump, maybe. Was I already spending a ton on my 180 gallon setup, yes. So why skimp, just buy a proven product from someone else.
Hopefully you bought the booster pump and 2 stage RO for your system, will significantly increase your water output and reduce your waste. I also make sure have mixed the salt water thoroughly, several hours, before testing and making any adjustments.
One quick follow up. I would replace the orange tubing that Neptune provides. It is too flexible and soft to be stable long term. After a week or use it is already being blown off the PMUP. A more rigid tubing solves the problem.
It is installed. very easy setup but I don't trust anything single object so I also have it tied into my float switch that powers things off if the sump gets too high (like my Apex DOS for AWC). I am going to add 1 of the leak detectors as well, since they are so cheap and i have 2 ports...
