Yea. I’m feeding rather lightly while I try to get residual nitrates down. My nitrates were 40 after my cycle. The water changes I’ve done have brought them down to 25 so far. I think your right Mark. Between light feeding and aggressive water changes, I just don’t have enough waist in the water...
I’m not sure I got this set up right. When I turn the adjustment to min, the water level goes up. When I rotate toward max, the water level goes down. Seems backwards.
I think I found the problem. I just checked my tank, and somehow I’m only at 0.022 sg. I routinely mix to .024. I don’t know how it happens. I will slowly bring up my salinity up the next few days. Will see if the skimmer works better.
Not much bioload. 7 small fish. I’m trying to skim as dry as possible. Just won’t skim at all. If I turn it up a tiny bit, It skims way to wet. I’m making tiny adjustments and waiting a day or so for it to settle in between. I’ve been insucessful with skimmers for years.
I’ve had these things on for over a year. Appropriately sized for the system. I turned it back down, and will leave it break in longer. Most have reported this skimmer needs minimum break in, going by consumer reviews.
I have had 5 protein skimmers over the years. 1 coralife, 2 bubble magus and 2 reef octopus. The one I currently have is is a new reef octopus 110sss. It’s been running for a week. I have never gotten any of the skimmers to work properly. The water level Has been recommended levels for the...
Breaking in the new skimmer. Plenty of room to facilitate maintenance on the filter sock. The larger reef octopus that i removed, made it difficult. Before and after pics are attached.
Thanks. I’m not too heavily stocked. Don’t intend to add many more fish. In the LFS when I picked it up, they seemed to be schooling. I’ll go pick up another one of these days.
I’m feel I’m pretty close to fully stocked with fish, for a 40 gallon. 2 clowns, 2 cardinals, 1 neon dottyback, 1 watchman goby and 1 brand new firefish. Will start to add corral soon.
That use to happen to my clowns. When they were smaller, and still sometimes with my male clown. My other fish are big mouths and don’t have an issue. When I see a big chunk of meat in there, I pull it out and cut it down. Im going to to try something else next time around. I’ll do alittle...
It’s disigned to be that way because it’s not fish food, it’s reef food. It’s made to feed fish and corral as well, so the fine particle are for corals. It is not the cleanest food for that reason. There are a lot of empty shrimp shells. I’ll give that artic pod stuff a try for sure.
Banggai cardinals that I bought a couple days ago, kept spitting out rods reef food. I was looking at pics of the species on the internet, and realized mine are too skinny. Tried garlic last few days, but that didn’t work. Ran out and grabbed some live black worms. They gobbled them up, and...
