How many pellets to start with??

I started off with the proper amount and it was not a good sight. A bacterial blum which went away in a week or so. Killed some corals. Starting off on the very low side is the way to go. Sudden shocks cost money and really suck. Nothing wrong with taking it easy.

    Disagreement

My wife and I disagree on the levels of nitrates and phosphates in a reef system. We both wonder where the coral get nutrition from if the levels are almost undetectable. Will a few of you reefers chime in on this subject.

    cleaning reactor

So does anyone have a clue as to what kind of reactor this is? It has no writing on it whatsoever and I dont remember TLFS giving a name when I bought it. It works great so I'd like to know it's name. I also have a BRS type reactor. I bought the old style insert for it from BRS and am currently...

Yeah I opened my reactor the other day to add bio pallets and noticed some gunky stuff. Figured it might just be the bacteria so I wasn't sure. It's probably been running about 4 months also. Thanks for the answers.

    My Refugium

No a carbon reactor. It has a BRS insert in it with carbon in that. The green thing on the side is the Bio reactor. I have it wrapped in green cardboard to keep the light out. This is a pic of the hole sump. I'm just getting use to the pic attachment process. Sorry.

    My Refugium

Ok first thanks George for the photobucket idea. Can anyone tell from these pics what is growing in there and is it correct? The first one is the sump with the Octopus skimmer and a carbon reactor. Along the side of the skimmer is a bio reactor. It only has 500 ml. of pellets in it. I have about...
