Quick question about your GFO. Does it tumble or really move? There is definitely a science to that and it should tumble not bounce around. If it bounces around the GFO needs to be replaced more often as it breaks apart faster. I was having a similar issue and found that I could not live...
My heaters make me nervous because i had a similar issue during initial setup. I use my controller and my heaters only get power for a certain temperature range. Definitely saved my butt.
I didn't think the Apex was wireless out of the box, its network ready, compared to the ReefKeeper. To me its the flex that the apex offers that drove me. My friend does so much with his its almost comical.
Apex Neptune, works great. I use mine for lighting, pH and temp monitoring, Vortech control, as well as dosing and all my other stuff. Really like it. SO much control with decent web interface and great iOS/Android apps.
I have also seen people use the controller to have the ATO turned off except for a few times during the day. So this way the automated water change doesn't affect it and then you have the ATO turn on every 2 hours for 5 minutes. Unlikely to cause problems.
the slow down bow is a great solution to the feeding issue, I have used that in the past with my Lab.
The hunting piece you won't get rid of, as far as i can think of, since that is instinct. My lab has killed several rabbits, life.
The other habits of jumping and being dominant sounds like...
I went from every other week to weekly and have been very happy with the results. I make the water through my RODI, into a container with a lid, heater and power head. I have a hose on the powerhead that i clip to the top of the bucket to create oxygenation and mixing of salt. I usually make...
Maybe introduce him at night to lower the stress of the new guy. I wouldn't add new fish unless they have been QT'ed first to make sure they don't add to it all.
I would try to squeeze out the Apex Lite but the Jr may cover what you need. Personally the display is a waste since the IOS/Android apps work really well, I never touch my display. You just don't want to be locked into the Jr if you ever wanted to add to it, sine it only supports 5 modules...
I understand the instinct to keep it but realize the stress involved with a new house, not to mention the costs. If moving won't cost much and your monthly maintenance is low, then keeping it might make sense. If that extra money will help cover painting, utilities, window coverings etc, then...
I have a 180gallon tank with 2 MP40s. I have them sitting at the exact same space on opposite sides of the tank. I use my apex to go sync, antisync and various modes throughout the day. I don't get many dead spots.
I have constantly flipped back and forth between build and buy, lately Mac based. I say figure out the use case, do a build pricing exercise then see about buy. Last time I did it unless you are a heavy gamer who needs high end graphic cards and stuff, buy is just better now.
Very cool snake. We tried a Chinese water dragon before going down the reef path (I was out of the hobby for more than an decade). After spending too much money and having this poor critter die, I went back to my reef habit/hobby/addiction.
Is there a anemone in the tank? About how big is the tank? I have had fighting like this with my pair as well but it died down and everything was fine.
