It's a cheap trial at this point since i have a spare dosing pump so i'm doing something like this. Fully saturated at just below my evap would be too much at this point, i'd guess my evap is around a gallon or so a day give or take, my current uptake right now would be about 630ml a day of...
I have an outside line to my skimmer, i open the windows when i can, but it's jersey. on rainy days, alk goes between 7.65 in the morning to 7.8-7.85 in the afternoon, on nice days, it will go between 7.75 and 8.1. I'm just trying to find a way to try and keep it above 8.
I could switch over and maintain my numbers with about 630ml of saturated kalk a day, but that also means refilling the bottle more often, but i would no longer need the other individual supplements dosed daily.
I would prefer a little more control over it to make sure my numbers don't fluctuate, and my evap changes with the days and seasons. I know that dosing 156ml roughly a day will lower my separate alk and calc dosing by 5ml/day.
I'm debating on hooking up a bottle of kalk and dosing roughly 156ml a day of fully saturated. Not really to maintain my numbers, as i dose separately for that, i would adjust accordingly though, but for a ph rise. I'd like to try and get to the point where my ph stays above 8. Tank is 150g...
careful with the type of clowns, certain ones can become very aggressive. firefish are colorful, there may be a wrasse or two that would be suitable in that size tank, if you go on live aquaria you can search different kinds of fish, and on the right there is a drop bar you can use to sort out...
nice looking tank there, depends on the clowns, some just don't care about nems, i think usually the occelaris, however you spell it, others will go right to it, usually the more aggressive species.
I was going to go with vectra as well, but i heard apex was coming out with a pump, so since i have the controller i figured i'd wait for that, and hoping my waveline pump will make it to that mark, lol. Quiet and i have had 0 issues with it, but apparently some mixed reviewed on it.
i'd recommend a spare pump as well, rio's i have had have failed. Waveline makes a nice cheap controllable unit that i use for my tank, hasn't let me down yet.
To clarify a bit, The same reason we calibrate ph probes with 7 and 10 fluid, you want to calibrate to the closest point you will be using for an accurate measurement.
using ro is not good, the calibration will be off at 35ppt. I did that and i thought i was running 1.025, i was actually running 1.022, coral were slowly dying. I would just get a small bottle of it, 6 bucks and lasts a long time, i calibrate mine weekly and i still have most of the bottle after...
Don't worry too much about the ph, I have an outside line as well, in bad weather my ph is 7.65 at a low and 7.85 at a high, in good weather it's 7.75 at a low and 8.1 or so at a high, doesn't seem to affect corals, they may grow a bit slower but it is what it is. As i get more coral in the tank...
I would not worry about the ph, it will come up with time, mine is anywhere between 7.65 and 8.1 depending on the day. Don't do a water change until it's cycled, there is no reason to, just let it be. Some people see ammonia and think to do heavy water changes, all it does is delay the cycle...
