When feeding LPS do I need to put the food right on them or can I just turn off the powerheads and put it in there general area? I'm not to worried about the fish eating all the food as they aren't the most agressive eaters. Just looking for some input.
Josh
Hello, My name is Josh. I've been in SW for only about 4 yrs. I kind of fell into corals about 3 yrs ago when a friend of a friend had to get rid of there tank(45 corner) that I put into my 135 gal. That lasted for about 1 year before the Leater toadstool died and whiped out almost the whole...
Yes, but its just barely the top layer of sand. When the get scared or go to shed they actually completely cover themselves in sand. And the only ones I got from the LFS are the redlegs and bluelegs. These ones were actually caught next to the closed fishing pier in Ocean City on the bay side.
Your probably thinking of Pagurus arcuatus. They're the ones that get huge and have a flat claw. These guys have been in my tank for over a year and have never taken a fish. There in with a small YWG, 2 dart fish, and a Lawnmower Blenny, also with handfuls of blue and red leg hermits, astrea...
So I was able to meet up with another local reefer who had better testing equiptment than I do to check my water and it wasn't good news.
ALK- was off the charts (over 16)
pH- 9.2
Everything else was normal.
I looked at the salt chart on RC chem form and it say's the salt I'm using is...
Was looking through my tank last night and seen one of my NJ hermit crabs rip a bristle worm out of the hole it was in and eat it. Just wanted to share. :)
Sorry about the picture qualitly but the camera phone was the closest thing to me.
I thought I seen one it a small mushroom I had on a frag once(mushroom was there, seen starfish on it, Mushroom is gone) but not 100%. I've also thought about adding a harliquin shrimp, but I also have a red/orange linkia and do not want him to be killed.
Also got the pic of the Big...
Did not know that. Could be why I barely have any corraline growth. The reason I pulled them out was THEY WERE EVERYWHERE o_O and I was under the impression they could harm corals. This was just what we found on rocks w/out moving anything. I also have a huge one that I put in its own thing...
Wont they just get sucked back into the tank? As far as problematic I'm not 100% as I've been having water issues lately so I can't really point the finger at them.
So it turnes out its the salt I'm using thats making it crazy high. I got my tank water tested(19) Tap Water(9) and freshly made up SW(20). I guess there is just to many buffers in the salt(MEI) I've been using and I've never noticed it until recently because I haven't tested for it. Any...
Talked the wife into helping me get a bunch of astrea starfish out of the tank:). Just seeing if anyone with a Harlequin Shrimp would want them before I just kill them. Let me know.
ROTFLMAO :D
When I seen the coral it was a good size and had great colors. You sould probably put the size of the piece or get a pic of it with something next to it for a size referance.
Goodluck.
The person I normally get frags off of has a 20 long and has a HOB filter with rubble LR. He said he is just faithful with the weekly water changes. Works for him.
