I just got mine locally. If you have an Ace Hardware nearby, you can check for Rooto Drain Opener, it's 100% Lye. I did the research a while back. They sold it for around $3+/lb. I was doing the GFO regen before I started using EcoBAK pellets. It may be worth a try.
I just noticed that I can't see any of the member forums. Is this area still down or is it just my status? I joined less than a year ago, so if it was based off year old info, that might be why.
I had my Flame Angel for 3 years. He didn't seam to bother any corals, but Xenia. He would just swim by and nip it every time he went by it. Then I got green zoas and they started looking crappy within days of adding them. After a few weeks, I noticed him nipping at them. I feed my tank every...
I have a Mag-Drive 18 as my return pump. It had trouble re-starting after being turned off. I took it completely apart and found that the impeller, magnet and ceramic shaft all apear fine. But, the rubber boots on the end of the shaft are beat. These are what I really looking for. If anybody has...
I tried to DIY a skimmer and had no luck, many years ago. Of course mine was all white PVC, don't have the tools to do an acrylic job. I played around with a crappy cheap skimmer, but I couldn't keep my NO3's in check. So, I would recommend a decent skimmer, mine was $250 around 5 years ago and...
The first picture shows the mangrove plant with leaves. The second picture just shows the pod. If you look at the first picture, you'll notice the fat part of the stalk, that's the pod. The stalk is the thiner part extending up. I cut mine just above the 1st set of leaves with no problems. As...
Phyl - Just be carful not to cut the actual pod. I think that might kill it. Mine were just pods when I got them, so no leaves or roots. The stalk came out of the top of the pod and the leaves followed later. As long as you're cutting the stalk, you should be able to cut anywhere, I believe.
No, I never cut the actual pod. Once the pod grew roots on the bottom and a stalk with leaves on top, I would cut off a section of the stalk. I don't cut all the leaves off. Below is a quick diagram to show this. I put half of a strawberry basket filled with LR rubble in a corner of my refuge. I...
I got eight pods a while back and from reading, one end should be in the sand or rocks and the other end needs tobe out of the water. It took a while but they started to get roots and then leaves. Now there are eight plants. I simply cut the section with leaves off and they regrow, but it takes...
I've read that some people claim that this product will assist in combating nuisance algae. My mag levels seam within the limits, sometimes a little low, (about 1160). I've got this nuisance algae coming back and was wondering if using the Tech M would help. Anybody used this product and noticed...
