Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
That is awesome Joe B!
I grew up at 34th and Pacific in Longport, and did that for YEARS in the spring and summer for my local tank (I had VERY indulgent parents who let me set up my first "real" saltwater tank at 9, and a 2d tank in the spring and summer with the critters I caught from 10...
That sounds like a good plan.
You may or may not need to add the ammonia at this point, it is really your choice. You can add ammonia, and create a cycle, or you can allow the existing ammonia to be consumed by bacteria from an instant cycle product, it will help to populate your tank and it...
Nice!
We have our clown that we bought before we got married in our DT with her boyfriend (a snowcasso) and our wild caught true perc misbarrs in the frag tank.
Two pair of clowns is the way to go :)
. . . or maybe you are just someone who has not bothered to read up on what Paul has actually done, and therefore you are the one who has no idea what you are talking about.
Seems roughly equivalent to the importance of testing water. But then again, what do I know. Paul and me, with our...
I think the second one might be tri-colored validia. If the golden ish color deepens up to greenish blue on the base that is what I would bet it is. Mine always had that color pattern after being fragged.
That is a valid point. It is also applicable when a fish is packaged locally and for whatever reason (typically too small of a bag), is running low on O2 and obviously in distress. This happened to me about 2 years ago, and Marc (one of our speakers in for a frag swap) recognized the distress...
Jing, I was thinking newly hatched artemia- you can buy the cysts at a Petco or Petsmart, decapsulate them with bleach, clean them with dechlorinator, and hatch them yourself with a small container and a bubbler in 24 hours.
PM me if you need help with this, I've done it many times.
This is an...
So we did a LOT of tank maintenance this weekend.
Mike cleaned the recirc tank, replaced the carbon in the carbon reactor, and he cleaned his mixing container.
I worked on cleaning some of the frags in the basement, and then we ripped apart the rock work in the display so that we could remove...
+1
He is entirely correct.
You should be able to keep anything (and I do mean anything) under that light, so go ahead and pick out (1) the REALLY colorful stuff and (2) the LPS that moves a lot. If the Alveopora continues to do well, I'll frag a piece for you.
Just a thought- if you have...
Yup, the girls got good taste. It was a limited edition woodford triple oak from 3 years prior. At least the wife didn't kill me, after all the face plant on the chair was on her watch. Hehe.
LOL.
Come visit.
Bring wifie and the girls.
We've got LOTS of bourbon and we'd love to see you!!!
Mark, I currently cycle LR in our 30g hospital tank (b/c it was sitting there empty and we have not needed to use it yet- eventually we will need it).
I have it running with a sponge filter, a powerhead, and a heater.
When getting ready for a new tank, I usually do the trashcan + powerhead +...
Jon, thank you for welcoming us into your home for today's meeting! Your tank is looking really nice, I loved the bangaii pair.
It was great seeing you both again!
There are very few people I would buy used rock from, even if it was really nice shapes. I know too many people who have had a problem.
I will reuse rock from my old tanks. If it gets really yucky (ie the massive bubble algae infestation we had in the 45g) I will vinegar bath it, rinse it...
I can help there. There are actually several species of gonipora, and which species you buy can have a dramatic impact on your success or lack there of. There are species that live in tidal areas, and species that live on reefs. You are looking for the ones that like reef-like conditions...
