HELP! Major change in coral behavior

were you able to confirm where captivating corals get their carbon from? I know there a few threads on RC where people used Kent Carbon and lost almost all of their corals. Is it possible that where ever captivating gets their carbon from, that supplier gets the carbon from the same source as...

HELP! Major change in coral behavior

Have you tested nitrates this morning? IMO I don't think nitrates going from 2 to 10 would cause such a widespread problem so quickly. Sorry you're going thru this....its very frustrating when the cause is not apparent. if you need water I have 75 gallons of rodi and about 70 gallons of salt...

And The Move Begins..... Now that my n03 levels are under 10ppm I have decided to start moving my corals to the new tank. Here are a few shots taken with my dslr...need to get a steadier hand on some of them and start looking for a macro lens. Pictures were taken under led only with whites...

    Dosing alk with doser

1.5 oz is equivalent to about 45 ml a day and if he has a light load in the tank that could be plenty. Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk 2

    My 280g build....

I was ready to use the biospira but since I didnt have a light on the tank when I started the cycle and new it would be a few before I did get one I decided to try something different because I didnt want to put any livestock in without a light on it. When I heard about using ammonia it sounded...

    My 280g build....

Thanks for the clarification Ryan. I was beginning to wonder that myself. As far as adding the ammonia...I added the right volume but where I think the confusion comes in is for how long do you dose. I will keep this for future reference if someone else is looking for info on it but there...

    My 280g build....

Tell me about it...I cant wait to see my water bill! This has nothing to do with the rocks. Someone on RC suggested I use pure ammonia to cylce the tank and they gave me what they thought was the "suggested dosing amount and schedule". Since I had never heard of this method I did do some...

Nitrates nitrates nitrates Because of a total brain freeze on my choice of how to cycle the tank....I am left with incredibly high n03 levels 160 ppm  I got aggressive with water changes and after doing a 230g change and then another 200g change last night, my n03 is down to 40 ppm...

    Dosing alk with doser

I am still using dosing pumps on my 80g but will be taking them down once I can combine systems and use the ca reactor. I have noticed the same thing as Sunny mentioned so make sure the tube is faced down. I have also noticed that you have to lubricate the rubber piston every few months...

    Sand detritus question

mark if you want....I have an extra 44g brute can on a dolly with a float valve so you can hook it up to your rodi that you can have. I have no need for it now that I have larger storage tanks. I know I sound like a broken record but I really believe the water changes will be the key to fixing...

    Sand detritus question

Mark...is there any way you can do a large, one time water change? If you do a 5g change thats about 5% of your TWV, you will only reduce your nitrate level by 5%. I dont remember what your nitrate levels have been running at but lets say they are at 40ppm, a 5% wc will only drop them to 38ppm...

    Manifold water pressure

Yeah that is a lot of pump for a 180g. I am running a blue line 100 on my system which is a total of 400g right now and thats almost too much pump. I would definitely turn off #1 and you should be able to balance it out. Manifolds are great but can be tricky.

what kind of return pump are you using? I don't see a need to have an open return back to the sump.
