    The 210 tank build

Good news: We appear to have finally won the AEF war. I'll be doing one last round of dips, likely tonight. The last time flat worms, or flat worm eggs, were seen was before we left for Aruba. We have not seen any sign of FW, or eggs, in a month. Cross your fingers for us! If (and that is...

I have 2 questions on pests...

Hi Matt, apstatia take time to grow, it is possible that it came in when it was quite small and you did not see it. It could come in when you add coral, on your live rock, or you could have a "parent" elsewhere, hidden in the rock that spawned the one you see now.

    Coral noob

Great instructions. I like Revive too, it has worked well for us.

    The 210 tank build

So, we spent some time doing maintenance today. Step one: clean the frag tank and do a water change. Step two: catch hermits and snails we siphoned out to the tank and into the sink and return them to tank. Step three: mutter profanity under my breath, then cut the tubing to remove the scarlet...

    12 gallon JBJ

So, the 12 g has been up and running again for a while now. It has been doing OK, but it isn't back to thriving yet. The yumas, rics, and chalice I moved back upstairs are doing well; the birdsnests and montis not so great. I think it is because i have been slacking with upkeep. Last week, I...

    Jawfish

Good luck! BSJs can be a huge pain in the neck to try to catch.

    aquascaping

+1. Wire is not a good idea. Mike, check out our build thread for our 205G. I made two arches using branch rock similar to what Real Reef sells. I used epoxy and went slow and careful. It took me about a day to do our aquascape. I did not use rods, just epoxy, because I am clumsy and Mike...

    Aefw?

We have been using Zeo Flatworm Stop religiously since September 2012 (we found AEF in late August) - 7 months. That is a lot of $ in zeo. From our experience, it does not prevent the AEF from biting the coral. I wish it did, but that has not been the case for us. If they worms were going...

    Frag Tank livestock recommendations.

LOL. I'm with Paul, that is one expensive animal for algae control. Good thing he is easy on the eyes :)

    Jawfish

Very cool. We have a BSJ in our tank as well, they are very cool to watch!

    The 210 tank build

Bax, we do have a cover. It sits inside, below the level of the glass, it is held in place by squares that sit on the corners of the tank. Ethan made it, and it both looks good and is effective in keeping the fish in, thankfully.

    Feeding a RBTA

Barry is the resident Anem expert, so I would def. listen to him! IMHO, he knows anems better than anyone else on the board. When we had our bubble tip anems, we target fed them mysids about 1 time per week. The clowns would feed them as well. Our bubble tip got to about 15" x 10" before we...

Do it, Bax! That sounds like a nightmare you can't wake up from. END THE PAIN!

    The 210 tank build

Thanks Judeo! We are excited to start moving coral upstairs to the DT now that the canopy is up and the lights are at the correct height. We moved two of my porites rocks with christmas tree worms up yesterday, but the frag tank certainly has a lot of coral in it! We hope to move more of it...

    Hockeynut's new 90 gal build

I think you will be fine. When we ran a MH, our tank stayed at 80 degrees. The most important thing is avoiding temp swings, as you know; we did not have a chiller at the time. A fan can work fine to keep the temp stable too. Our LEDs have too many options too, there is not much I can say...

    The 210 tank build

Thanks, but we can't take the credit- Ethan is the real mind behind our setup. The smartest thing we did was call him when we were ready to buy the tank (before we bought it), and listen to him when he told us what he thought we should do. The system is coming along nicely, we are both enjoying...

    Hockeynut's new 90 gal build

I think you are smart in holding off on the MH for now. Those lights are energy hogs, I would stay away from turning it on for the moment, although I would turn it on, and monitor temp swings, before you add too much livestock. As far as macro in your refugium, go for it. Adding macro from...

    Hockeynut's new 90 gal build

An "instant" cycle sounds great, but in practice, it is not something you would want to do unless you absolutely have to. Example: if Tank A crashed, and you needed to house livestock immediately, that would be a time to try for and instant cycle, using a product, to try to save your livestock...
