So as many of you know, this tank is soon to be broken down. However, before that can happen, (1) the fish room in the basement needs to be completed (it was framed out this week), (2) the tank needs to arrive from Elos.
So, the 45g cube is still up and running.
the report: the sps corals are...
Jim, we currently have a sunburst anthia (which I love) and a sailfin anthia (also very nice). We have had the sunburst for 11 months, the sailfin for about 6.
Darren has some lovely Anthias in his tank, you may want to ask him.
Some people have luck with temporarily removing the damsels, redoing the rock work, and adding them back in. By redoing the rock work, they trick the fish into thinking it is a whole new territory. Damsels in the wild protect pretty large territories (they are algae eaters) which makes them a...
I know this isn't what you want to hear, but tear your tank apart if necessary.
That does not look like a reef safe pistol, and as mike said, it certainly is not a candy; candy pistols are typically small, and are bright red, bright yellow, and white, not orangish-pink.
If you know what...
There are several I keep handy.
The marine fish health and feeding handbook by bob goemans and lnce ichinosubo is good.
The two that top my list are the conscientious marine aquarist by bob fennner and Martin moe's marine aquarium handbook.
i would also suggest The coral reef aquarium by Tony...
I would keep the skimmer. It will give you more options in terms of fish selection, and (as noted above) if you are a few days late with a water change it will buy you some time before the water parameters get horribly out of wack. Don't forget, our skimmers also play a role in oxygenating our...
Sorry to hear about your temp. problems. I had that happen to a 30g tank 3 years ago, it stinks.
Fist of all, does the water, the rock or the sand bed smell? If the answer is no, I would test. Nitrates, nitrites, will likely be high (unless you have one heck of a skimmer); then I would...
If you put both pair of clowns in the 44g, yes, you will likely have a problem. Unless your clowns are still juvenile, a 44g is too small for 2 pair of clowns. If either pair is close to spawning, they will kill the other pair.
I can't speak to ceriths, but I have baby trochus ( they spawned last summer and almost crashed our tank), at this stage they are about the size of a small pearl.
Step one: get some new live rock, and some new sand. As Phil said, temporarily relocate the livestock to another home (tank, brute container, you get the picture).
Step two: Empty the tank and vinegar everything. E.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.
Once the tank is clean and scrubbed, step three: add new...
As mike and me move our tanks together, i agree with what he said.
Just a couple of other things to think about:
Your corals are not going to be happy about this. They are going to slime up. When that happens, don't panic.
Your fish are going to be a bit stressed - cover the container(s)...
The clowns are from sustainable aquatics, they were purchased from Trop 2.5 years ago. The dotty back is ORA, was purchased from Trop a year ago. The three fish lived at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Marlton, in the Prayer room at the elementry school. My Aunt, Sister Mary Pat, has...
