The PE Mysis is "all meat," there's no pack juice. I call it fish crack, nobody can resist it.
I got a good deal recently by buying the big 40oz. pack. I cut it up and vacuum-sealed the pieces so they wouldn't get freezer burn.
It's good stuff.
The anemone came off the rock in the bag. I was glad I had prepared a nice platform for it, I put it there and it attached. It stayed there for hours, then went down a hole in the rock, and stayed there, still expanded. Then later I could see it in a hole in the rock, in the...
I lowered my lights 1" to see if I could improve things for my corals. I am starting to think that a couple of 400W ballasts are in my future. I can use the same sockets and reflectors. The 1" does make a difference, though.
Replaced my Ca reactor pump, it's back online. Had the ASOV fail in my...
Could be alignment. Follow the instructions formoving the motor VERY SLIGHTLY to see if you can reduce the noise. If it persists, call the folks at Ecotech, they are super helpful and will send new parts if needed, Great customer service.
I add topoff water through a kalk reactor and I use a couple of float switches, the older "ReefGeek" topoff controller, and two solenoids (so there's redundancy). I agree that nothing's foolproof, it all needs to be checked tregularly.
Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax
I think you only have a year to set up the 375 before they change the thread title back! ;D
The 'nem got settled in beautifully :) and then decided to go walkies :(. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Couple of tense moments while the CBB and especially the...
Thank you for those kind words. I've been getting a lot of "experience" lately!
This is the solenoid I use:

It's good practice if you are going to automate topoff to have the solenoid on a timer so it's only allowed to run a half hour a day or something...
Re: Jimroth's Big Ol' Realization
So now comes the inevitable self-recrimination following the (minor) disaster. As a computer guy, I now realize that my system is set up with too many SPOFs --Single Points of Failure! Too much of the plumbing can drain the sump system (not the tank, luckily)...
I don't know about Kold Steril. I use RODI. When you use a mechanical float valve with an RODI, you need another little gizmo called an ASOV that senses the backpressure and shuts off the flow. The float valve alone can't take the line pressure. This stuff is all pretty good, but it can all...
Latest pump to die is the Mag 2 from my Ca reactor, another casualty of the sump emptying out. It runs but kind of rattle-y.
In an unrelated disaster, the hose popped off the float valve on my RO tank and flooded the garage yet again. With fresh water this time, very refreshing, a nice change...
I was really glad I had made up a barrel of SW before I left; I highly recommend this practice. I added the water from the barrel. and pumped it into the display. I think there was decay in the plumbing, because the water that came out smelled a bit, and all corals closed up. I fired up my big...
Re: Jimroth's Big Ol' Vacation Crisis
While I was on vacation, during the last day or second to last day, a the seal failed catastrophically on my return pump. My neighbor noticed that no water was flowing over the overflow and called me. I had her shut off the skimmer and return pumps. And to...
