Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Man, nobody has been posting here much, I haven't updated and I haven't even slid down the page. Summer doldrums!
Everything's pretty good with the Big Ol' tank. No worries, except the stupid Dart pump, I'm gonna fix it after vacation. The dripping comes and goes.
Some updates and observations...
I have worked my way up to 4.5mls per day, or .45ml per 25gals. You have to do it slowly. The skimmer is key, you have to remove all those extra bacteria you are growing!
Just FYI for anyone with one of these or considering one: Once it's out of warranty...
They don't like to sell replacement motors. They told me "after we mark it up, it is just $20 less than the cost of new pump."
They did offer to sell me a new pump at a discount.
For those who consider...
I got the idea because several times "civilians," including my mom, have said "Ohh, what's that beautiful green thing?"
OH MAN! BRAINSTORM! We should have a "BIGGEST VALONIA" contest at MACNA!!!
I use a manual hacksaw, doesn't take too long and it's what I have. And a cheap masonry bit for drilling holes. They get pretty rusty if you don't clean them afterwards.
Good thing I have a spare Sequence Dart. After six months, the Dart Gold is pushing water past the seal.Plus there seems to be a lot of black junk (from the seal?)built up between the volute and the motor. Just peachy. I guess I'll call the sequence people on Monday.
I understand they're delicious.
Just to play devil's advocate, have you ever heard of an aquarist being hurt by one?
That's because none ever has.
Even in nature, there are few reports of death, and some are sketchy (no one saw the octopus do it.)
Compare this with stonefish, jellies, etc...
Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax
Sorry to hear about that Bax :-\.
By the way, where did you pick up that AminOmega? Is there a store around here that has it?
I have central air and it only has a return on the top floor, but my tank is on the first floor, which is always warmer and more humid. Is it possible to add a small return to the first floor?
Re: Brian's 225g Monstrosity!
But if you do it before MACNA you will have a place to put all the cool stuff you will pick up for cheap during teardown!!!!
