    What are you reading?

Those are all some great suggestions, especially The Reef Aquarium by Delbeek and Sprung. I just finished Marine Chemistry, by Chris Brightwell, where he has a chapter for every important chemical relationship in the system. Very nice, and lightened with lots of pretty (but irrelevant) marine...

    On Vacation

I think you have too many of your own teeth left for the "Hillbilly Riviera" (we prefer Rehoboth, somewhat north of there...) ;D

    water change + algae bloom?

Ryan, No, your RODI should remove that stuff. Get a TDS meter or borrow one and check out your outflow levels. I would lend you mine, but it's an inline model, permananently installed. I was getting 3PPM and I recently changed the DI cartridge and I'm getting 0PPM.

Man, if that happened to me I would be checking for an ejector seat malfunction. And probably a change of clothes when I got home!! :o

    kalk cal planing

I used to add calcium this way and I grew a lot of coral! If you find that the calcium still runs low, you can spike the water with white vinegar, that increases the amount of Ca you can deliver. I use a Ca reactor and kalk reactor now because I like being driven nutz by inanimate objects! :-X

    Here's my Big Office System

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax Can you imagine how dull this hobby would be if there was a gadget that you could hook up to the tank and it would do it all: dialyze out the poisons, tune the skimmer for nastiest goo, adjust the salinity, pH, alk, dose the additives, clean the glass...

    Here's my Big Office System

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax Bax, Those are some fairly tough fish you're talking about, they'll probably shake off the ich in the normal cycle time. In the meantime, I would say the best thing is to take a couple of deep breaths, go to your happy place, and leave it in the hands of...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Here's the trio, not my best photography: Uh Oh, Sunset Hates Pokerstar!!! The Rainbow Pocillopora is popping up around the tank. This little colony is on the return. This little colony is looking more rainbow-ish

    blange3's 180 upgrade

PE Mysis is very concentrated, there is basically no pack juice. The PE Mysis are 3-4 times larger than regular Hikari mysis, so large that my yellowlongnose cannot swallow one hole and has to kind of pick it apart. The downsides to it is that its oiliness kills skimming for a long time, and it...

    blange3's 180 upgrade

Bill, Have you tried feeding the CBB PE Mysis? Mine eats it with such gusto I can hear the slurping through 3/8" glass! I too have been following Paul B.'s advice on the blackworms. AbFish stocks them all the time, they are pretty cheap on a per-feeding basis, and they last a long time in the...

    Coco Worm/Feather Duster

I have never had one last a full year, tried twice. I have had some of the (unrelated) Hawaiian giant feather dusters for severalyears, I think they are better adapted to tank life.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

I have been quite sick with the flu and some other things, so neither the tank nor this post has gotten much attention lately. Here's a couple updates, musings, etc. (1) Added another female square anthias from The Fish Tank. I saw they had one as big or bigger than my other female, and that...

    Brightwell

I use the followng Brightwell things KoralKolor Replenish Microbacter7 Potassion P and Coral Amino. Hearing good things about the Vitamin C. Maybe I should just send Brightwell my paycheck. I am probably going to take the GFO out of my reactor and start using the NeoZeo rocks soon, since GFO...

    Kalk/calcium reactor

I run both. You need to experiment to see how much kalk you can add w/o clogging it. I find I can add a lot more LFS kalkwasser powder than pickling lime because the latter is a lot more coarse. My reactor stirs like 10X per day. I have it set so it stirs on the half hour, and water top up...

    Brightwell

I got improvement in color while using that product. I'm now using 5 different brightwell products. (1) The copy on the bottle walks a fine line on the BS scale. What are "biochrome pigments?" (2) There is no ingredient list, who knows what's in it? I think it works, though!
