Brian's 225g Monstrosity is Now 180 gallons of FUN!

Re: Brian's 225g Monstrosity! You definitely need to physically remove it. I think what fish can do is get all the little sprouts when it pops up where it was torn, etc. Also if a fish eats it it just becomes fish poop, where as harvesting exports nutrients from the system.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Cool Thing in Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank I added an orange linckia starfish and a blood shrimp today. The serpent start shot out of his hidey hole to inspect the linckia, I was poised to intervene, I thought he was going to eat the new echinoderm, but he shot back to his hole after shaking hands...

Brian's 225g Monstrosity is Now 180 gallons of FUN!

Re: Brian's 225g Monstrosity! Wowsers. That's a lotta grape caulerpa. Maybe a herd of tangs, on rental. When I had my "toilet tank" going for around a year I would periodically pull a dozen or so stinky handfuls out. Unsatisfying. I think you have to get most of it manually and then get a a...

Thanks Bax, kinda confirms what I thought. Bad news, my Sequence Dart return pump is just screaming. They warned me and I didn't replace the seals. Now I need to buy a new one. Sequence also told me they will run fror a long time while making a racket, so I'm ordering through the group buy. It...

    feeding an antheas

It's a long section, so I don't want to type it. Basically he says it's a misconception and some species actually do better if kept singly. He says the misconception stems from the fact that anthias group on the reef in SHOALS of THOUSANDS of fish, with a social hierarchy. It's not like a SCHOOL...

    feeding an antheas

Reef Fishes Vol 1, by Scott Michael, pp 543. http://www.amazon.com/Reef-Fishes-Scott-W-Michael/dp/1890087211/ref=pd_bbs_9?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230596359&sr=8-9 It's a great book series, but I'm already up to 4 volumes and haven't gotten to the wrasses!

    feeding an antheas

The theory that anthias need to be in a group is not considered to be true anymore. According to Scott Michael, many do better singly. I have a M+F pair of Squarespot Anthias, which I love. The male beat up the other females which were smaller, I had to remove them. I feed my anthias 2-3 times...

OOOPS!!!!!! I forgot to turn OFF .......

I think every reefer should own a wet/dry vac. It's been used a couple times this year. I second (or third) the float valve idea, along with an ASOV on the RO unit, it's a blessing, I never flood the garage anymore. Not that way, anyhow.
