Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Some people like to include their return pump so it can be shut down when you do a feed cycle through the AC3. But yeah, I don't think it's worth the risk.
I hate people who do this, but where did you read that? Wouldn't it depend on the amount of carbon relative to the water volume being processed? If I have a 55G reef and I run that water through a 6' carbon tower, it's not going to be true, is it? Just seems like an illogical "rule" to me.
BTW...
Thanks Bax. I'm making some incremental progress with corals too. I think I didn't really understand the whole Ca - Alk - Mg thing until recently, and I think I caused some alk swings by playing with kalkwasser and the Ca reactor. I thought I was preventing pH swings, but apparently swings of...
Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank Photos
Here's some photos of the new Copperband and the whole happy fish crew:
Now good friends, almost:

Your design is brilliant. I saw a different design (not as good, I think) which was a tube with many holes in it which the CBB and Yello Longnose could get through, but not the other piggy fish.
My CBB is right in the fight with the others at the top of the tank these days when the frozen mysis...
I think It's more important to drip acclimate fish. I started that recently (as opposed to slopping water in and out of the bag) and I think I'm getting better results. I don't drip acclimate coral.
It's also legal in Canada to harvest 1 lb and smaller lobsters. When you order a genyooine Maine lobster dinner in Hawaii, it's always one of those puny Canada punks. I guess Canada doesn't worry about their fishery.
I have eaten, with help, a 12-pound lobster (and it was a cull, if you can believe that!)and found that this is not true. My Dad was a lobstermaniac and would often buy a huge lobster if he saw one. His mantra was always, "There's a lot more meat on a ten pound lobster than on ten one pound...
First off, I had a D'OH moment when I realised that my Ca Reactor effluent had been discharging sometimes over the float switch...
could have something to do with the sticking.
My setup is as follows: I have a 50G drum of RO water, an aqualifter pump, and one of those solenoid valves from...
I have a floatswitch on my ReefGeek ATO controller that has stuck twice in the up position, leaving me with a nearly empty sump. How often do you have to clean these things, and is vinegar OK?
The ease of pulling off the hose really bugged me, so mine have little wire ties on all connections except one of the ones right on top, for ease in flushing the new carbon/GAC (with an alternate hose).
Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank: Fish Fun
I continued my stocking plan by adding a particularly nice Copperband Butterfly I found at a store I frequent. It isn't one of the really big Australians, but it wasn't $180, either, so that makes up for it. It's a medium big one, shipped out of Bali.
I wish I...
Bax: Ya know, I'm a special kind of idiot.
I noticed there was a lot of salt on the motor shaft, and I called the Reeflo people, and told them about it, and they asked me if the horrible noise had started yet, and I said no, and thy said good, because when that starts it means the salt has...
