That sounds pretty reasonable to me. They look so tiny, maybe the combination of less current + more reflection of light attracting brine to the dimples is resulting in their behavior. Or I could be reading way too much into this and those are just the spots they like for one reason or another...

Remember one of algaes biggest food sources is light. As long as you keep running your lights chances are you will have to keep up on the scraping. You are not alone in this, look around at other people's tanks and just about all of them will have a mag float or reef gadget to help out with this.
We use Lee's breeder box, clear thing that is covered in slats for easy water flow. Found this on marine depot, kinda expensive but you get the idea...
You could try putting the aggressor into a small quarantine container inside of the main tank. I did that with success. I needed to hold the aggressor for about 4 weeks before my clowns settled down.
Do not pay more than 15 dollars for an HDMI cable. Monster cables and other companies will try and sell you cables that are really expensive but it does not make a lick of difference. Go to amazon, they actually sell one for $.99 and it works pretty well.
Give the mp40 time, we are running a mp10 and mp20 on two different tanks and I would not go back to anything else. Play with the modes, you will have some fun.
