I'm thinking about taking the rocks and sand out adding a bunch of vinegar and water and cycling The thing Off of a generator for awhile scrubbing it a couple of times. no telling what kind of bugs are in that thing
Well thanks for some answers. Looks like I'm going to dry the rock clean it but probably not going to use it anyhow. The sand will be gone too. Clean the tank and all equipment with a ton of vinegar. IS THAT WITH WATER OR JUST VINEGAR??? I'll let you know its going to be awhile til I get back in...
Well thank you for the info MNAT. I'm going to take it slow as I'm not even back in my house yet. I've already been thinking about the rebuild, I'm excited about it but too bad it happen this way. I think a box or 2 of dry rock from BRS will do. Has anyone ever bought Sand from eBay? I don't...
Things in tank were good no problem anywhere. Its been sitting for a week and a half. Some fish not found yet so decaying in there. Corals all gone, mostly SPS. Gonna really start the cleaning today. Just curious if anyone has been in this position and what they did to get it back in order.
Ok lost power, tree on house....only 3 fish alive, thanks to Aquatic Obsession, or it would have been a total loss. Time to rebuild. Tanks need total cleaning. Should I take live rock out and clean it with anything ???? let it sit in air to kill whatever might be on it....start with new sand or...
I believe the hair or spaghetti diagnosis is correct. I did'nt notice the tenticles by the head but I'll look closer when I get home.
I find new things in the tank and I freak out wondering if everything is going to be killed or something. I dont dip new coral but I think it's time to start...
Thanks the stars are definately asternia. The pictures in the links confirm that. the red thread things still not sure will have to keep searching. Im on vacation now but will get some pice in a week...maybe that'll help
I started off with the proper amount and it was not a good sight. A bacterial blum which went away in a week or so. Killed some corals. Starting off on the very low side is the way to go. Sudden shocks cost money and really suck. Nothing wrong with taking it easy.
My wife and I disagree on the levels of nitrates and phosphates in a reef system. We both wonder where the coral get nutrition from if the levels are almost undetectable. Will a few of you reefers chime in on this subject.
So does anyone have a clue as to what kind of reactor this is? It has no writing on it whatsoever and I dont remember TLFS giving a name when I bought it. It works great so I'd like to know it's name. I also have a BRS type reactor. I bought the old style insert for it from BRS and am currently...
Yeah I opened my reactor the other day to add bio pallets and noticed some gunky stuff. Figured it might just be the bacteria so I wasn't sure. It's probably been running about 4 months also. Thanks for the answers.
I guess I should've asked for a little more detail how long was it running before cleaning. I wasn't sure if cleaning would be start the whole bacterial process over that's why I'm asking
No a carbon reactor. It has a BRS insert in it with carbon in that. The green thing on the side is the Bio reactor. I have it wrapped in green cardboard to keep the light out. This is a pic of the hole sump. I'm just getting use to the pic attachment process. Sorry.
Ok first thanks George for the photobucket idea. Can anyone tell from these pics what is growing in there and is it correct? The first one is the sump with the Octopus skimmer and a carbon reactor. Along the side of the skimmer is a bio reactor. It only has 500 ml. of pellets in it. I have about...
