58 Gallon Oceanic "A new beginning"

As some of you know, I retreated from the hobby last year due to unforseen circumstances. Last week, I had this Oceanic 58 with glass top fall into my lap. They got tired of taking care of it and offered it to me.

So my return journey begins...

Here is the tank as it sat in an office.

I havn't quite come up with a plan as of yet. Today, I emptied the tank out and will take the fish and rock home and go into the ghetto 20L that I have set up on the island in my kitchen. Tomorrow, the tank will follow.

THE BIGGIE: I need to decide if I want to drill the tank or not. (scary) If I do, I will put a GH 700 gph overflow along with some form of return.

Lights: I still have my 4 bulb 48" T5 HO Sundial fixture along with two 48" retro setups to make 6. This will have to make due (and look stupid) until I can mosey on over the the LED side of things as money allows.

Sump: I have not really researched to see what I can fit underneath this tank yet. So more on that later.

Skimmer: Will get as money allows.

Rock: Existing rock (scrubbed of course)

Substrate: I still have my DSB that I had for my 75 sitting in a rubbermade bin by my shed. So I will take some of that. Washed well of course.

Heaters: I have a few laying around still

Powerheads: I have various ones laying around that I can use untill I can upgrade as money allows.

Return pump: I still have a Mag7.

RO/DI Unit: Will have to get one since I sold mine last year.

Off the top of my head, that's all I can think of at the moment. My head hurts.

hey i have a 36inch 4 bulb t5 fixture with ati bulbs in it, and i need a 48 inch fixture any chance you would trade with maybe a couple dollars from me?? I also have an overflow box if you decide not to drill!!

Some inmates in the temp 20L. Yes, I need to vac the bottom.

The rock, a 3rd black and white (but a 4 stripe) damsel and a pseudochromi was transfered from the breakdown. The Gold Banded Maroon and the Staghorn Damsel I have had for 4+ years. The pseudo was out and about this morning but was hiding last night after acclimation when this pic was taken. All three of the black and whites were all swimming together.

It's mocked up in the living room. I hate staring at an empty tank but it has to wait until I can at least order the GH overflow kit, drill and install. With the 20L that's being used as a temp tank for now, I MIGHT be able to put that under the Oceanic for a sump but not sure yet. That would be awesome if it does.

Well i might have to change the title of this thread. I finally got around to inspecting the glass on this 11 year old tank. Not good. It had a bobo flourecent strip that did not show much scratch wise. I tossed my t5's over it and WOW! I can only imagine how much LED's would bring them out. There is no way that this would pass as a display tank....at least for me anyways. So im thinking the biggest I can go without replacing the stand is a 65? I think they are the same length and width but just a few inches deeper.

I had gotten so used to the size of my 75. Maybe I'm subconsciously fighting going with an even smaller set up. hahahaha Not that i have anything against those that keep smaller tanks.

Well? After much deliberation with myself, I went ahead and put up the rifle on a site to fund this tank build.

The tank will be either a 58 or a 65. Not sure which yet.

Someone offered me a nice and tidy 65 set up complete with tank, stand, plumbing and sump. (which i'm considering)
Skimmer will be the Bubble Magus NAC7 (if George still has it when I need it) If not, skimmer shopping I will go.
I'm thinking a Reef Breeders Photon24 LED fixture for this. Should be sufficient, right? I want the option to be able to keep SPS.

I still have a MAG7 that I used for a return pump on my 75. I'm hoping to use that on a 65 that has a GH 700 overflow kit.

I found out that the skimmer was not available anymore. I knew I should have snatched it up when it was offered but I wasnt sure which direction I was going. So i'm on a skimmer hunt. I'm looking for an IN SUMP skimmer that's equal to (or close to) the dimentions of Bubble Magus NAC7. I REALLY liked that skimmer when I had it for the 75. I see that the price has gone up considerably just from last year to $285.00. If I can get help finding one that has similar specs for cheaper, it would be greatly appreciated. If not, I guess i'll have to break down and pick another one up.
