58 Gallon Oceanic "A new beginning"

I went ahead and ordered a Bubble Magus NAC6 skimmer from TB Aquatics yesterday. I'm also going to attempt to drill the existing tank so I ordered a Glass Holes 700gph overflow kit and a 1/2" return kit. If it works out...then great. If something goes wrong, then its just a scratched tank that gets tossed.

My Bubble Magus NAC6 arrived from TB Aquatics today!!

Upon initial inspection, everything looks good. VERY well packaged. One thing is different though from the description on most of the sites that sell these (including TB Aquatics)

They advertise the pump as being the ATMAN 2500 with meshwheel (which was also in the NAC7 that I had) What I got was one made by BM. Model Sp2000 with needlewheel.

Weird.

This is most interesting. The Atman 2500 is actually the ViaAqua 2600 pump. I just looked up this pump and it states the manufacturer is no longer supplying / producing this pump.

I have the SWC 160 that also uses the Atmann / Via Aqua pump. Although I now have three of these pumps, I wonder if this new Bubble Magus SP2000 pump would fit in the SWC 160?

Does your pump look like this (which isn’t close to what the Via Aqua looks like):

That looks exactly like the pump that I got. Brian at TB was quick to come back wih an answer. "They changed the pump without informing us. You have the latest one."

I think I answered my own question! It would appear that all of us that use an Atman / ViaAqua pumps are up the creek without a pump. If the pump is no longer available, nothing else fits without changing a bunch of stuff. I’m ticked!

They are now selling a kit to upgrade your old NAC6 to the new pump. It looks like they had to change quite a bit:

Bubble Magus NAC6 skimmer upgrade kit comes with:

New improved SP2000 skimmer pump
New improved needle wheel
New venturi
New bottom plate
New bubble bottom bubble plate
New bubble clear top plate
New top screw

With the above kit, you can easy swap out, the parts that you need to keep from the old kit are: top bubble plate, bubble chamber and long black screw.

Damn Paul. I'm sorry I had to be the one that turned you to that news.

SWEET!!! I just got a notification that my ReefBreeder Photon24 is shipping today! Can't wait. Things are starting to come together.

My Glass Holes overflow and return kit arrived today. I recently got an offer to purchase a 65 that's already drilled and has this overflow installed...sooooooo... I might be putting this sparkling new overflow kit up for sale soon if I don't need it.

Now for the unboxing of the Photon24 lights from Reef Breeders.

I was very impressed with the packaging. Well protected and everything arrived without a scratch. I should have followed the directions to NOT look directly into it but hey....i'm a man and I follow my own directions. HAHAHHA!! I'm STILL seeing spots from last night. The cell pics don't do this thing justice! I held it over the temp 20L that has some rock and fish in it. WOW!! I saw some tiny rics or hairy mushrooms that you could not see with the T5's. And the shimmer? Coming from T5's i'm blown away. I can't put actual tank pics up yet beause I don't have the tank set up yet. I'm gathering EVERYTHING before starting that.

Got similar model. I really like them, but they are bright! Mine run at 80% max during peak output. I use the custom mode and set each channel output every 30 min. Helps the colors pop in my sps.

YES!!!! I drilled the 58 just to see if i could do it and everything went smooth. Did the overflow and return. Its not too often that i do these things myself instead of paying someone else to do it. Lol. So I gained a little pride here. Im gonna go ahead with plumbing it myself and installing baffles in the 20L I already have. Only major thing left to get is an RO/DI unit.

Nice job...where's the pics??

This Ocianic glass is pretty thick. 3/8. I went at it with an "I don't care if it breaks" attitude due to it being an old tank. I think that helped me relax and not be so nervous. It took a little time to let the drills own weight and the bit do all the work. I had my son keep the hose on it while drilling.
