58 Gallon Oceanic "A new beginning"

Nice holes! :)

Thanks. There was some tiny chipping on the back end but i'm told that it's normal. I ALMOST forgot to put something down to catch the plugs so they wouldnt break the glass on the other side on the fall. I used a 3 gallon bucket with a couple inches of water in it (because it was within reach). Worked like a charm.

This weekend, I managed to move everything over from the temp 20L to the 58. The reason I did not fill it any more is beause I want to add another union to the drain before buttoning everything up. I also can't get glass cut for the sump until this Saturday. Otherwise, everything looks good. As you can see, the ReefBreeders Photon24 is just resting on top for now. When I fill the tank up the rest of the way, I will figure out a way to mount it. I want to avoid haning from the ceiling so i'm thinking of putting a functional shelf above the tank and will probably hang it from that. Right now, it's 8" above that water line. I also still have to aquascape.

Interesting, so will that and the 3 stripe damsel let any new fish be introduced?

I might not add anything else till I decide what to do with the stripers. Here is what's in there.

1 x Gold Banded Maroon Clown (had for 5 years) Queen of the tank
1 x Staghorn Damsel (5 years) Bully 2nd in command
2 x 3-striped black and white damsels (less than a year because I didnt want to see them flushed by someone else) stick together and don't bother anyone else.
1 x 4 striped black and white damsel (came with the 58 when I tore it down not long ago) Bullies the 3-stripers a little but not too bad
1 x Neon Dottyback (came with the 58 as well) Keeps to itself.

I would love to start over with different fish other than aggressive damsels. I would have a hard time getting rid of the Staghorn and my wife would never let me get rid of "Mator", the Gold banded maroon.

Man that reefbreeders light looms like a beast. I think I'm definitely gonna have to go with that for my 40 breeder. And now I think I want to do the glass holes kit too. I originally thought about doing that but then figured I was just gonna go sumpless with a bh90 reef octopus but I thinking this will look a lot cleaner. Keep it up man specially with pics of that reefbreeder light

Looking great James! Nice job on the holes and that light looks pretty cool too. Only one plug on that thing?

Also, where are you having your glass cut for the sump? I have a 40B that I'm going to turn into a sump for my new 120 project, but haven't had any time to work on it lately. I'm going to try to get the stand & side cabinet done ASAP so I can make the switch before the Swap. ;) I'll need to get the sump done before then too, so I need some baffles for it.

George, the reason for the one plug is because the Reefbreeder’s Photon series come with their own touch screen controller….built in to each fixture. From their website:

The controller has an LCD touch interface, and allows for dimming in half hour, or one hour intervals. You can program a sunrise, sunset, and moon cycle, using the remote, or the touch keys on the unit. The whites/colors, royal blues, and moonlights are all separately programmable.

So no ReefAngel needed here.

They are actually very nice fixtures.....and reasonably priced to boot!

Yep! Just one plug. I'm using the stock program that ramps up and back down in half hour increments. I'll reprogram once I get some eye candy in the tank. There's is a place in Pemberton that does glass called Creekside Glass & Mirror. I had priced some baffles last year with them and it was pretty cheap but I never got around to doing it. I'm hoping to go there this weekend but my wife planned birthday parties for me and my two sons. So i might not make it.

I LOVE mine!!!

Progress was stalled due to my father passing away last week but I managed to get some things done.

Installed the baffles that Creekside Glass cut for me in the 20L

I had to cut a notch out of the back of the stand to get the sump in but I managed.

I also finished up my first plumbing job ever. The reason you cant see any water dumping into the sump is because I was short about 10 or so gallons. I had filled the sump and put the rest into the tank which brought the water line to just under the teeth of the overflow. So last night, I made more water and added salt this morning which is mixing now. Should be good to go by this eve.

Success!! Tank is fully operational! No detected leaks in the plumbing so far. Turned the skimmer on for the first time and of course, needs a break in period. The glass holes overflow is quieter than expected. I hear nothing but a small hum from the return pump and that's it. I did have to add a small adjustable PVC piece at inlet to the sump to silence the water going in.
