Dan's 150 Rebuild

Alright I'll probably go out and get something tomorrow since I'm off. Where can I find "acid"? Lol is there a specific brand name I'm looking for? And is there a difference between doing vinegar over acid and vice versa?

You'll definitely want to use hydric acid and lots of it!!!

Dan it's muriatic acid really nasty stuff you can buy it at homedepot but I think I would stick with the bleach
And vinegar trust me it will kill everything on your rock with no problem

The acid isn't used to kill the stuff on the rock exactly. It eats the top layer of rock away and removes what is "in" the rock. Bleach will just make it bright white. Vineager will do the same thing as the acid but will take many days. Acid will take 45 min. It's really easy to do. It's look drilling a tank. It sounds scary but isn't

Well I also have to consider where I'm at right now. I don't exactly have a back yard to do this stuff in. I don't even have a hose at the townhouse. So I'm not too sure what to do. I'd prob go with vinegar since I'm not in any rush.

Dan
If you goggle bleach vs acid on reef central randy holmes Farly stands behind bleaching rock it's also a good read

Well it doesn't really matter to me. I just wanna do what's gonna cause the least mess since my back yard is a shared yard with everyone else lol

Dan if you decide vinegar costco has it for like a 1.40 a gal. If not a member. guest pass . cheaper than stores .

Just emptied the can of rock and dumped the bleach/water combo. Gonna run out and grab some vinegar and mix it up with water and let it sit for a few days. Rock is looking nice and white :)

Only have a few corals left and a wrasse. Once they're out, I'm cleaning and emptying it.

Gonna start a pico for my gf thanks to Rob. New thread will be started soon :)

One more water change and I should have all the sand out of the tank. Haven't seen my coris wrasse in a few days so I'm hoping he's under there Lol

I can't wait to get this tank all cleaned up, its so ugly right now bc I've obviously been neglecting it since I'm breaking it down. So much hair algae on the overflow and back walls.

Mods, could you please change the title to "Dan's 150 rebuild" thanks!

I plan on doing this tank FISH ONLY for now since we do not plan on staying here forever so I'm thinking ahead and I'd rather break down a fish only tank than a full blown reef in a couple years. Makes life easier, less stress too.

Now onto other things, time to start plotting. The inside of my stand measures 66" long x 18.5" deep x 24" tall (its actually 30" tall but those 6" of difference are blocked by the frame so I'll lose that).

Now, I'm in the market for a custom sump and I need some ideas. Any places you can suggest for custom acrylic work? I know there's a ton of places around online but I'm not sure which ones have the better reputation. I'm also thinking ahead with this sump bc I'll eventually go back to full blown reef after we move again.

Any input would be greatly appreciated guys! Thanks!

Melevs reef, synergy, aquabox, Titan aquatics are a few that come to mind. I really like the looks of the aquabox sumps.
