It's either the float switch or the Aqua Lifter. It's easy to test....plug the Aqua Lifter directly into an 110 outlet and see if it pumps. That will tell you if it's the Lifter of the switch. If the Aqua Lifter is making noise and not pumping...it's most likely the rubber diaphrams which can be purchased separately.

As far as heaters, I like Eheim Jagers. They are longer then most others, so just make sure you can fit it in the area you wish to put it.

Heres the sketch of my custom sump being made. The filter socks will be on the back corners instead of the front. I went with 3/8" acrylic and it'll have a brace around the top as well. Should start making it next week he said. So excited! :)

Alright well i paid for the first half of my sump, should start being made next week i believe.

Quick question. Ive never done fish only so im a little confused on a couple things. Is flow still a factor? And what about the skimmer?

I have a 180g fowlr and I run an ATB 840 V2, while it may not be necessary I like to provide clean water and this thing pulls some serious gunk.

May I ask how much the sump is costing you? I was thinking of having one made since I hate my current one.

You don't need as much as in a reef, but you still need good flow to prevent junk building up on your rocks etc. I would keep the same flow you did for your reef personally.

Agreed. Also helps with O2 levels. And you know you will put corals in eventually so don't kid yourself. :p
