Dan's 150 Rebuild

Well I started filling it yesterday, forgot to tighten the bulkheads all the way so I had a lil leak from 2 of the 4. Well actually 1 of them was leaking where the bulkhead met the PVC pipe so I guess the glue didn't hold in that spot. I dabbed em up and they seem to have stopped.

I'm rather unhappy tho, last night I discovered the back left corner of the sump(ATO chamber) was chipped. Not sure its more then just a cosmetic blemish but it still sucks.

Woke up this morning to check on things and I saw water by that corner! Luckily after further inspection, the pipe above the sump was dripping all night and it rolled to that side of the tank. Little more dabbing and we'll see what happens.
This stuff drives me bananas

Couple more pics. I cannot seem to get this one elbow to stop leaking as you can see. Any bright ideas? I would just cut it and redo it but I kinda screwed myself as I don't think ill be able to get my pipe cutters in there :/

Well i fixed the elbow issue. Then I had a bulkhead issue, redid that. Now I have ANOTHER issue. Its leaking ever so slowly at the beginning of my manifold. Its so slow that i didn't notice it until I completely filled the tank up.

I turned the system off, let it sit for awhile, dried it off and tried applying more PVC cement to it but its still leaking a little.

I CANT redo this section. It would cost like $20-30 to redo since I'd have to make a new manifold. Ugh I'm done with this tank today.

when you piece the PVC together are you applying cement on both pieces and twisting it to set it (you should). I think you might not have used enough cement. You also need to make sure you hold it together until it sets as it will try to separate. Sorry if this is obvious.

+ 1 also make sure you are using primer and the pipes are completely dry. If it's a slow leak check out the link I posted earlier. HD or any irrigation supply should have them

Yeah I did everything you guys are saying, I always do. I've done many plumbing jobs on my tanks before and I've never had this many problems before :( I may have to wind up redoing the manifold which I'm not looking forward to but if it means a lock tight system, I may not have any other choice.

Well I thought I fixed the leak by applying some more cement. Had the tank running for about 5 mins with no signs of a leak. Then I inspected closer and the tiniest bit of water is coming from that same spot.

I've given it some thought and I may redo the manifold anyways. I messed up on one of the outputs by making it 1" instead of 3/4". So I guess it'll be a win both ways. I probably won't be getting to that til next week or so, who knows.

Gobs and gobs of Silicone for the leak. But, it has to be completely dry, and, it has to have time to cure properly. I had a issue like that, and I drained the system, Siliconed it (Same problem, not enough room to remove the piece without dismantling everything lol) and waited a full 48 hours. Filled it up, and it's been running just fine for about 4 months now lol

I've been trying gobs and gobs of PVC cement and it still isn't working! Lol I'm just gonna redo it. Gotta fix a few things anyways.

Just a thought when you re-do your plumbing. Get rid of the manifold. Just a T to the returns. Much simpler and less gluing. You have a lot of joins in a tight space. Use flex. Easy to cut in place if you need to redo part of the plumbing. Use another pump for your reactor/refugium.

I like the manifold tho lol plus I use it for my brs reactor and my aquamaxx reactor. That's 2 less outlets I could be using for something else.

Just think it will be a real PITA once your tank has been running and develop a leak.

I run a second pump with manifold. So only one extra outlet. It will be easier to manage than one big system.

Anyone have any ideas on how to my drains less noisy? Right now I have the ends of the hose going into the water and its still making a gurgling noise? Maybe raise the water level in the sump a little more?
