I agree that barbed fitting looks like it is increasing velocity I just have a straight pipe about 2 inches under the water and it makes a lot of bubbles but when the sock goes on the bubbles are contained ill take a pic

Thanks for the pics Rob. I removed the barbed fittings and went straight pipe with a bunch of slits in the bottom and the noise has subsided. Now i just gotta work on the overflowing socks.

I also hooked up my BRS reactor. Put carbon in there to help clean the water some. We'll see how it goes

My sump has two PVC pipes that have slits cut in them. They need to be cleaned roughly once a week. I slide them up onto the overflow pipes.

I'll keep an eye on how dirty they get. Should work just fine for me. The real test is when I get home tonight at 730 to see if either of the socks r overflowing. I replaced one of them this morning with a clean one.

Good news! Came home and neither sock was overflowing!! We'll see how long they actually last tho since this is still a tank with 0 inhabitants lol

Okay so weird thing going on. My temp probe is reading 76.7 in my sump but the display tank is reading close to 80. Thermometer is brand new, only a couple weeks old.

Do temp probes need to be calibrated?

this kind, don't remember the brand

Those cheap ones are almost always off, I don't use them to be exact, I just use them to make sure my temp, whatever it is, is consistent haha

I would put more trust in the mercury thermometer than the "temp probe." I'm assuming the "temp probe" is some probe attached to a controller. If that is the case, it can and should be calibrated.

Agreed. Probes need to be calibrated, I always trust the thermometer.
