Dan's 150 Rebuild

I calibrated it twice but not sure its right. Its reading 30.2 which translates to 1.023 but my refractometer is reading 1.024 and I calibrated that with the same solution. Big deal?

Anyone know of a place to buy float switches that have somewhat of a long wire on them? Realizing the distance between my skimmer and BoB is lengthy. Maybe 3ft

Get some wire and shrink tubing and solder the connections. As long as the connections arent submerged it won't be a problem. I extended several this way and have them connected to my BOB.

That's what I figured I'd have to do but wanted to ask any way in case I could avoid that lol no biggie I suppose.

Just installed my ATO float switch finally. Now I can do away with the JBJ box and mount my pump under the tank and out of the way.

I also got my starboard in the other day. Gotta measure the overflows and attempt to cut them out with my dremel.

Anyone have any recommendations on a new heater that's less than 19" long and 300w or more? A good, reliable heater!

I need to move my heater bc its effecting my probes(long story). The spot that its in is the only spot possible.

Also, how can I create more flow in my sump? Having the 7" filter socks really put a blockage in flow.

I can't speak of long term reliable, but I had the same problem. I went with 2 of the Finnex Electronic Controller Aquarium Heater w/Titanium Tube 300w. Decent reviews on Amazon and it was short. I would use a controller for any heater.

have you tried the mesh (not felt) socks? Much more flow thru those.

So weird! I was just thinking about the titanium tubes. Their 500w heater would be perfect, cuts off about 5" in size I believe. I have an apex so I could just run it off of that.

I did think about the mesh filters but also thought they'd be too noisy. I'm gonna ramp up my return pump and see what happens over a few days. Forgot I only had it on setting 4 of 6.

I had a similar problem with the Jager heaters being too long for my sump, and went with the Hydor THEO's. I was able to go to a 400W heater, and save ~ 4" in length. I did, however replace them every couple years, and move them to my WC station where they took a beating, and never broke. I used the mesh type socks; ultimately I was only trying to keep the critters out of my sump, along with an occasional fish.

Yeah I'm definitely gonna swap out my heaters. I'm going to order the 500w finnex titanium tube probably. I'll c about swapping out my socks to the mesh.

Next week I'm off from work so I plan to have this tank 100% up and running, rockscaped and all. Such a long process lol
