Dan's 150 Rebuild

Just dry scaping right now.. Whats everyone's input on pillars? Thinking about maybe doing something like this

I really want this to be open but am kind of nervous about not having sand as kind of a "building block". Gotta make sure they're sturdy enough

This isn't the whole tank, this is gonna be one side probably or something similar

Here's the other side. Now I'm not sure if I'm gonna be turning any of these instead of just laying them out in a row. May have this end slanted. Not definite yet but getting there.

Well the mixing cement I got for the rocks isn't working too well. Mixes fine but never really "bonds" together. Not sure what's going on.

I just ordered a mixing kit from Marco so the waiting game continues...

Turns out this stuff does work. Just not as quick setting as I thought it would be. I did the pillar yesterday and let it sit overnight. Out of the 6 pieces that are on there, 4 of them held strong. Maybe its my cementing skills, who knows. Redid the other 2 pieces and gonna let it sit for awhile. Should meet the tank later today.

this one I partially did last night, molded it into 2 different sections for easy installation. Should be tank ready by tonight.

this one, I'm not sure what im doing with yet, its pretty sturdy as is so I may not cement it. Not even sure if I really like it yet

When I dryscape, I try to think of what it will look like in the future. What will go on it, what will it look like when it grows out. What are the plans for the pillar? Not a lot of shelf space for a frag and if a plate type coral grows on it, it might become unstable. If your planning to cover it in Zoa's or otehr softies, then it would look pretty cool in the future.

Thats actually what I was thinking of all along. All zoas and palys

Nice natural looking rock work. Any thought on using the pillar to hide the overflow.
Thanks, but no not really. Never thought of that. Maybe I could do something like that for the other side. I'm still up in the air about the left side of the tank to be honest

Thanks! I tried making 3 separate structures of all different height. Even tho the 2 are very close in height, I think it breaks em up. Also didn't make anything "centered" so you look at everything(if that makes sense)
