Dan's 150 Rebuild

Just talked to Aquarium Center. They said I have an old oceanic tank and that it doesn't need to be replaced. He recommends emptying the tank and resiliconing it which I'll probably do but I'm not going to empty the tank, I just can't. I'll dump some into 5g buckets and try that.

I can understand your reluctance to replace the tank. It's understandable if a bit stubborn. Replacing just that silicone won't seal anything. New silicone won't seal well if at all to old silicone. Remember if that small area is compromised what other surprises await especially considering the age of the tank and how many times it's been moved and now with it being a slight bit off lvl.

Its not that I'm stubborn, if I was financially sound, this wouldn't be a conversation Lol I simply can't afford a new tank. My only option is to lower the level. Clean it off, dry it off, remove the old silicone and re-do it. Or sell the whole entire tank setup and get out of the hobby for awhile and I don't want to do that lol

Just checked craigslist, nobody has a 150 in the general area available for a decent price. Found a 125RR but not for $400 and plus I don't wanna downgrade already lol

I just did my 2nd 15g water change since putting the tank up. All of my numbers r pretty decent other than my Alk. Going by the Hanna checker its at a 5.9° as of before the water change but my calc is 400-420ppm, mag is up near 1400-1440ppm.

Everything looks good so I guess I shouldn't really be concerned?

Well, the decision has been made. I'm going to be saving up to buy a brand new tank. Either a 125RR or a 150RR. Something that'll fit the stand and canopy I just had built for sure.

Lol thank you! I'm going to my LFS tomorrow to put a deposit on the new tank :)

Just realizing now I'm going to have to cut the top of my stand out for the Reef ready overflows. Hopefully I have enough room under my stand for the new plumbing

Yeah I'm sure I will, I just worry. Might have to rearrange a few things but shouldn't be a huge deal I don't think.

More worried about not removing my sump and ATO tank when I'm cutting the top board up, so many bits and pieces from the board going into the water Lol

As your cutting have someone follow the blade underneath with a vacuum. That and a piece of plastic once the sump should be all you need.
