Dan's 150 Rebuild

I wouldn't starve the tank of light, but turning your power heads up could help as long as your not blowing sand all over the place. Keep an eye on your corals and see how they react.

What pellets are you using by the way?

See I did turn the PHs up and my sand went nuts. I tried repositioning and nothing seems to really work. I do have some dead spots even with 3 PHs.

I'm using the BRS pellets

I have 2 wp40's and 1 wp25 in the tank. I can turn them up but I feel like my corals and fish hate it Lol... I just siphoned out as much as possible. Was gonna go lights out for a few days.

Idk if I already said this but I have 2xmp40's50%, 2xmp10s 40-50%, a wp25 100% and a koralia nano on my 80g(48x24x16). Fish and corals will be just fine.

Oh wow that's alot Lol guess I'll be in the market for another powerhead or 2. Thanks guys, appreciate it.

Im gonna go lights out for a day to try and starve the cyano. See how that works, in the mean time, all my powerheads are at max power and I'll be ordering another.

So all of a sudden my Orange Shoulder tang is laying on the sand/leaning on rock work and breathing heavily. No signs of disease. Up until today he was perfect. He did have 1 nasty mark on him but I believe that was from the yellow tang when they were first introduced. Any ideas on what to do? The only thing I did recently was a water change and I siphoned out some cyano and that was it. Lights r out right now. I turned them on and he still just lays there.

Alright well I'm sure most of you saw the other thread I posted. The orange shoulder has died :/ After asking a few people and doing a little research Im almost positive it was an internal parasite that got him. Should I treat my DT for any parasites or just let it ride out? Everyone else is okay and eating well.

Good price but I'll let ya know. Its still almost 2 years old. Who's to say I buy it and then it needs a new wetside a week into use? This is why I never bought any vortechs. Too much moneyyyyyy Lol :)

I mean I bought it brand new and only used it a year, so technically it is 2 years old with 1 year of use.

If you're interested I'm heading down to Lacey township, I can drop it off.

I used Crypto Pro for a few weeks and no I dont QT..... Sadly.... :/

Hopefully its an isolated case of a parasite that you can get control of, and the other fish are safe. I'd seriously consider the QT. Its a pain waiting, but it will save you a lot of stress. I have two simple PJ cardinals in QT and I can see them acclimating very well. Eating, being less shy, no bulling etc.

Good luck with everything.

PS: QT also means you get another tank...lol

I've considered it but don't think the gf will be too thrilled about it. And it also comes back down to catching all the fish. That's why I treated crypto in the tank last time. I couldn't catch anyone.

Well, doing lights out for the past 2 days for a majority of the day seemed to really eradicate the red slime. I also added "Stability" by Seachem. Not sure if it had any help with getting rid of it but its supposed to help with all the new tank syndrome like symptoms so I'm a happy camper.

I think I'm going to get a tank for QT because I may be picking up a Purple Tang for $100. Pretty decent size I'm told. Not sure yet. If I do get him, I wanna do it the right way and put him in QT for a few weeks. I've never really done it this way but after having that parasite on the other tang, I don't wanna risk anything.

Also planning on getting an acclimation box so when the time does come to.add him into the DT, my yellow doesn't beat up on him.
