Dan's 150 Rebuild

first i had the chevy then i got the yellow and finally the purple. when i put the purple in there was some serious fighting for a day or so. My yellow is the size of a dinner plate. once things got established they are all the best of friends. every now and again you will see them tiff but for the most part they all school together.

that's my story and im sticking to it. all fish are different

I hear ya man. Do you think it would make a difference if the purple tang was bigger then my yellow?

Those two are the nastiest of the zebrosomas. I had them both and the purple killed the yellow in 24 hrs. and the yellow was a bad ***. they were doing hurricanes in my tank going at each other. I wouldnt chance it. and for the Naso and Achilles i added i had to remove the purple for a few weeks for them to acclimate. I know have a Purple, achilles, blonde naso and hippo. with no problems.

Okay so I cleaned the inside of the tank pretty good and now my rock work is pretty dirty. What's the beat thing for cleaning the rocks? I have a ton of hermits but not much cleaning going on

Biopellet users. Is 1000ml of pellets sound like too much for my tank? Bc I'm just about done with the BRS 1000ml container and my po4 is still 0.15ppm and up

Rule of thumb is 250ml per 50 gallons. I don't think you will have a problem with 1000ml, you have a decent load in your tank. Just keep an eye on your numbers, there would be nothing worse than stripping your water clean.

Yeah well i think I'm far from that. I did my po4 3x and got 0.17, 0.18 and 0.21ppm(Hanna checker) so its up there. My nitrates are at 2.5ppm(Salifert kit).

It's not the biopellets that remove the phosphates and nitrates....it's the bacteria that consume the P and N and then get "exported" out of you tank by your skimmer. It doesn't happen overnight....it takes time for the bacteria to populate the pellets. Give it time.

Works even better if the bacteria are in the dark. Is your reactor covered in darkness? They do like their privacy. :p

Just letting you know what the ideal condition is for biopellets (actually the bacteria)....total darkness. I wrapped my reactor with drain pipe (picture with door open):

I had to buy a ten foot section of drain pipe....if your reactor is four inches in diameter and you're in the area, I'd be more than happy to give you a piece to make your own cover.

I'm in Blackwood actually. Not sure where Sayerville is :/ thank you for the offer tho, where did u pick the drain pipe up at? HD? Lowes?

Home Depot....a wopping seven dollars for a ten foot section. Where the seam is, I used black electrical tape to keep the reactor in total darkness and zip tied the pipe in place. You don't need that fancy door setup I have....just carefully cut with a knife and the friction will keep it closed.
