Dan's 150 Rebuild

Lower it slowly by removing salt water and replacing it with RO/DI water. Maybe someone else can chime in on a rate to lower it. I would just remove water throughout the day and have the top off replace it and monitor salinity until you reach your goal. What is your tank at now?

Lowering the salinity is not that bad. You can make pretty big changes in a day. A Few points at least.. to get to 1.15 from where you are should take about a day or 2. RAISING it on the other hand takes TIME. and Should be done 1/2 points a DAY over the course of time.

I feel stressed just telling you to do it. But your animals will tank you. You will feel better that ich's been wiped out of your tank..

I forgot one part of the instructions.

After the treatment. Run Heavy Carbon and use a POLY Filter in your sump to strip the water of any chemicals. I did this for the piece of mind but the carbon and the poly are perfect for stripping the water of any meds. I tested that my water was ready by adding A Snail First, a Softie Second, and a SPS frag third. This was after about 3 days of running the polyfilter and the carbon.

Ok let me get this straight.
-Set up frag tank - remove corals, inverts, macro etc.
-Lower salinity to 1.015
-treat main tank with crypto
-on 7th day do a 25-50% water change and retreat.
-After a total of 14 days, put carbon and poly pad in
-test waters...

Does this sound correct?

Okay, one last question. Let's say I don't get all my inverts out, which I know I won't. Is that okay? Will the dying inverts cause anything? Ammonia spike?

You are still stuck with running the frag tank fallow for 8 weeks.

So why not just leave everything where it is and just pull the fish and treat them. That's the easiest.

Nah a few snails kicking the bucket is nothing to worry about. In actuality the crypto-pro tends to stun them. Some of them like LARGE snails can actually live through the whole treatment but will probably suffer some damage. Considering what your killing off.. replacing your cleanup crew should be a minimal loss vs loosing all your fish.

Bc I don't think I'll be able to catch all of my fish in all honesty. And why do I have to run the frag tank for 8 weeks if no fish are in it?

That's true. Thanks for all your help

Okay well I'm okay with leaving a frag tank for 8 weeks. I mean isn't that what all frag tanks do? Just sit there? Lol that I'm okay with, it was having the fish in a smaller tank for a long period of time that I was worried about. Especially my 2 tangs together

In my experience and what I read fallow takes a while. I think that by leaving the frag tank fallow for a while and the. Following dip your coral procedure that you can minimize the risk of re introducing ich. I would rather your fish be in the big tank maybe even finish off your reef fish stocking and making sure everyone's healthy before adding corals

Yeah its a good possibility. Gotta see how this all goes first. I'm hoping for a pleasant first experience with doing this bc I'm sure it won't be my last

Okay, just picked up crypto pro. Borrowed a 40g B and heater from Dan K.

I have a dresser that measures 31" long. The tank is 36". Is this a bad idea for the time I need it for or should I just put it on the floor?
