Dan's 150 Rebuild

So by now.. none of the fish should be showing signs of Ich. They should be eating healthy as well. Have you thought about what your restocking process will be? I hope you also took this time to change your reactor media's in prep for the tank cleaning. Also picked up a POLY filter and put it in your water stream. Its not needed as copper strips the stuff out of the water pretty quick. I used it for piece of mind. Crypto-Pro is also good algaecide so your tank display should like have a mad reduction in algae lol.

I have not thought of my restocking process just yet, guess I should get on that. I'll change out my GFO and carbon tonight I guess. When should I put the poly pad in? I just did the 2nd dose this morning.

PolyPad

Well you treated the display and your fish right? So when your ready to strip the QP from fom the tank water you should put the carbon and poly in. This is in addition to your water changes. After running like that for a while like 2/3 days Try a few snails and once they are good try a zoa or macroalgae and once thats good you can start restocking.

What I did is basically buy all my fish Qurantine and add them to my tank BEFORE adding any corals. This ensured that I had a fully stocked tank before adding any corals. The reasoning behind this was so that if a disease broke out.. I could treat the whole darn tank again lol.

Well wanna hear something weird?? I have numerous hermits and snails that lived thru this whole process. My giant coral banded shrimp lived and even molted during this process! Lol I did however have a few snails that paid the price.

I thought I was supposed to go a full 14 days before putting the poly pad in?

I was under the impression I go a full 14 days, then do a big water change, put the carbon and poly pad in, give it a few days and then start restocking. Does that sound wrong?

NFP reccomends at least a 25% or more water change. Personally I did 2 big water changes 3 days apart. I changed 30 gallons each time and was running carbon and poly non stop. At the levels needed to kill ich.. 1 water change alone is enough to render the chemical unable to kill anydamn thing with the exception of the most sensitive of SPS or LPS.I took not chances.. I basically stirred up and siphoned my sand, blew off my rock, wiped down surfaces in my tank, Cleaned my skimmer and stuff as well. The water changes were to remove the bulk of the chemical with the carbon and polypad doing it 24/7. I was able to add back cleaning crew 24hours after doing the first water change.

Alright awesome, so I'll make plans to do 2 25g water changes just to be on the safe side. Ugh the only thing I hate about bigger tanks... Bigger water changes lol

So I was looking on R2R at the "Large Rock Scape" thread and I think I wanna take some rock out and do 2 small islands. Leave some negative space for corals but still try to incorporate caves and such.

Need advice on stock order please. What goes first, together and last?
Achilles tang
Blonde naso
Bartlett anthias
Melanarus wrasse
Scotts fairy wrasse
purple dottyback
*female blue throat*(not sure if I'm getting yet)

Okay so tangs are going in together and last. Guess I'll start getting my other fish ordered. How long should i wait between adding fish? How many at the same time?

I have always added fish sorta willy nilly, when I can I put I put tangs in together keeps them from argueing. You just don't want to add the little guys after the big ones.

Are you trying to add them to the tank while you are treating it as a way to QT them? If so than maybe just get them all at once so you don't have do it all over.

BTW I have an orchid dotty and it is great fish not really aggresive at all ...had a bicolor and I think purple is similar...he would attack me. Beautiful fish but mean. So if you want a purple fish go with the nice one. :encouragement:

I mean I could get them all now that if I really wanted to I guess and act as a QT, but I still gotta get set with my rocks and get a bigger skimmer. Would they be okay in the tank without a skimmer for a week or so if I got em relatively soon?

They should all be small so skimmer shouldn't be an issue. ...have to ask asonitez about the treatment you are using if it is OK or not as I am not that familiar with it. How long you can run it etc.

Well next Tuesday night, I have to do a 25g WC, then Wednesday morning throw my poly pad and carbon back in the tank. So the treatment is only for a few more days.

I don't plan on adding coral for awhile so if ICH acts up again, I'll just treat again, no biggie.
