Dan's 150 Rebuild

Phos gaurd is strong. It's for removing phos so it's that or Gfo. If you use it, use less than the recommended amount. I wouldn't cut off the pellets at once. It's like a steroid/drug. You can't go cold turkey, you need to slowly get off of it. Which is why I said cut the pellets in half.
Alright so maybe I'll do that then. I'll take out half the pellets. Add a little bit of phosguard and slowly swap em out. How long of a period would you say before its completely switched out?

And is phosguard a pellet or like a bag of carbon type thing?

I know a few people who have just shut them off with no problem. I just had enough one day and took the reactor our and everything improved very quickly.

I don't know if my system will get "shocked" as its only been running for 2 months. But better to be safe than sorry I guess. How does everyone run their phosguard? In a reactor or a bag?

I removed high po4 from my tank using Kent's Phosphate Sponge, it's a ceramic that you can use for no longer than 48 hours and it will reduce the phosphates considerably. It's a bandaid but you need to find the source of the PO4. I know they sell it in Petco for about $20 .

Well I think the source of po4 is coming from my pellets. If that makes sense. I stopped feeding heavily, I'm religious with my water changes. I even reduced my light schedule to just 7hrs a day.

Did you use all live sand? Where did you get your rock from
Yep, all live sand, caribsea Bahamas oolite if I remember correctly. The rock was from 2 separate places. Half of it was from my 90g tank. The rest was ordered from Marco Rock as dry rock which I let soak in RO water for a couple weeks prior to adding into the tank

Marco Rock?

I have yet to see this rock not leach for a long time after using. A friend of mine used all Marco and had cyano and hair algae out the wazoo. He pulled it all and re cured it. Added back to his tank and once again same problems. It wasn't until that rock was bleached and vinegared till it was ok with no issues. And I've read other accounts with the same issues.
Good luck.

My only concern with this is I don't know which rocks are which so I'd have to do all of the rock and that's a lot to do. Like 200lbs I'm guessing

Flush as in remove all the water out. Powerhead isn't enough. If the rocks are leeching, whatever is being leeched needs to go somewhere. Without being flushed, it's going right back into the rocks.

Wait has your tank only been cycled for 2 months and you have that many fish? It sounds like your tank is trying to catch up with the bioload too.
