Mine had the best color about 10" under my 6 bulb tek fixture. It also liked pretty good indirect flow.

Wow very nice colony. Yeah I don't think I've ever had em in direct flow, maybe ill try that after I redo my rock work. Did yours encrust a lot before growing upward?

It was a bit of a weird frag to start out with but it did encrust a good amount before branching out.

Ours did great blasted by an mp20, 8" below a 5 bulb t5 fixture.

Ahh now that I think about it. I had it in direct flow before when I had koralia powerheads. I did away with them since and it seemed to stop growing. Definitely moving it back to high flow lol

Well its not pretty but I finally got my doser hooked up and programmed.

Also got my Mag Disks today. Put my green and purple cap on the back wall almost touching so they hopefully grow into each other.

Not to be critical of ESV, I'm sure it's a fine product, and works well. Here is an analysis I did using the pharmaceutical grade chemicals from BRS:

1 gallon of dry Calcium Chloride is $17.09 @ BRS. Using recipe #1 it yields about 7 gallons of solution which works out to $2.40 per gallon.

1 gallon of dry Soda Ash is $17.09 @ BRS. Using recipe #1 it yields about 9 gallons of solution which works out to $1.90 per gallon.

So, ESV - buy both @ MD for $ 37.49

DIY - both for $ 4.30

Saving: $ 33.19

The yield for the ESV is 37.5% more than the DIY so the adjusted saving is 62.5% or $20.75.

If you wanted to go the Prestone Driveway Heat, and A&H Baking Soda route, the savings would be even greater.

I use a gallon of each a month, so the savings mount up.

Wow now that u broke it down for me, that's insane! How difficult is it to mix everything, easy instructions?

Take some salt and dissolve it in water. It really that easy. Takes me about 5 min to make a gal of each. The soda ash may take a little mixing to dissolve it tends to crystallize, but will eventually break down on there own. I've been using the BRS stuff but will be switching to DIY soon.

Awesome, I'll definitely be looking into that.

Another question tho. What's the best method for keeping the air hose into the container? Mine are all curled up and sometimes the pump doesn't pull any up

Jim do you use dosing pumps? Or are you still just pouring it in I want to go down this road but mechanical things tend to fail and that scares the crap out of me

If you are going to use the gal jug as dosing canister you could use a piece of RO tube. It's a bit stiffer so it won't curl up. I didn't have the space for them so I got some dosing canisters that work well.

Its a Marine Magic triple doser. Got it on eBay for $169 shipped. Once you figure out the programming and what you need to dose, it really is simple
