Dosing peroxide for algae

I'm thinking of dosing peroxide (1ml per 10 gallons) for my brown algae problem in the near future. I want to try a lawn mower first. I've read of some good results.

I'm not sure if its new tank syndrome. Diatoms came and went. Or a light vs nutrient problem. My nitrates are 0, but the algae might be sucking it up and my Phos has been .05 until the RBTA suicide. Yesterday Phos was .13. Skimmer is running wet to pull as much as possible. Running GFO. Feeding lightly too. I did a 3 day black out and lowered the whites on the LED. Then I read low light might be causing my problem. My rock at the highest elevation is pretty much algae free...

Dieing for an algae free tank. I see the start of some coralline algae under the mess.

Thoughts?

My best advice would be to wait it out a little longer. I started my tank with dry rock as well and had algae issues for a good 6 months before it settled down. Keep on top of your water changes and siphon out what you can during water changes. A toothbrush rubber banded to the end of a small siphon tube can help out a lot as well. Use the brush to scrub and it is sucked into the tube and out of the tank

Thanks for the reply. I have been doing water changes, but also read sometimes WC feed algae with fresh nutrients. I will go with the lawnmower and take your advise and give it more time.

I used to have Diatom/brown algae on my glass a lot. Needed to clean the glass every 2 days. Now it's all gone. Removing the sand may have helped but I think it s just new tank syndrome.

I wouldn't do it mark it will go away, what I would do is if there is any rocks that are easy to take out and scrub with a brush I would do that every once and a while when you do a water change. That stuff doesn't look healthy it looks like it can be gone at any moment. Let the tank mature before you go and add possibly harmful chemicals coral doesn't like peroxide..

Now that you guys can see the algae and know what it looks like, I'll follow the advise and wait it out.

I am dealing with a new tank that has some bacteria issues and trying out a UV sterilizer. It helps reduce the haze that collects on the glass. I will share my results as things progress.

I would let the tank cycle on its own. It looks like a relatively new setup. The more junk you start adding to the tank it's just more stuff u have to ad in as a variable. Double down on the cleanup crew get a lawn mower Benny and cut back on feeding. The algae is feeding on something so cut off its food supply and let the fish scavenge for a bit.

Its only 4 months old. My clean up crew or whats left of it really don't touch this algae. They were great at the diatoms though. I'm looking for a lawn mower Benny. I'm going to wait it out for a while. I was wondering if it was a low light issue vs too much light.

I agree with RWC...the tank looks new. The algae appears to be is congregated on low flow areas underneath the flow of your powerheads. It also doesn't appear to by dyno or the dreaded bryopsis. It just looks like regular hair algae which is very common in this hobby. What is your PH and Alk like?

by the way - i like your choice of fish. Love the jawhead and i've always loved firefish. I built a pvc/Barnacle shell for my jawfish and the firefish took residence. Fun fish.

Mexican Turbos are very hood at destroying hair algae - but they are huge snails that bulldoze everything. If you have your frags epoxyed on then it's no issue. Another possibility is an urchin. Again if anything is not locked down, they will take the frag and put it on their back lol.

oh i have no experience with these but i heard some aquarists use the lawmower blenny like you are thinking about , or emerald crabs.

Another more interesting selection would be a sea hare - but they will die once finished eating. Sometimes aquarists will lend one among all the tanks.

Lawn mower seems the way to go. And my Turbos dont like this algae for some reason. I'm waiting it out. Looks like I have the start of coralline under this mess.

you have these? they are mexican turbos.
