Re: Here's my 120

In keeping with my poicy of full disclosure ... a.k.a. "My reef, the good the bad and the ugly" ...

The truth, the whole truth yada yada yada ...

After a long run of success in QT, I feel pretty beaten by this last effort. In a short period now I've lost two 3 stripe damsels (yhey were going into a frag system), the trio of lyertails, and now the flame angel.

The damsels went in a brief power failure where the siphon in there HOB isolation tank did not restart (imagine, needing to isolate damsels!), the anthias, well they were anthias, and the flame cuaght a nasty bacterial infection that I blame on myslef for not being more agressive with water changes. He was looking great recently but just would not start back eating, when I got in this morning, he was gone.

Definitly not my brightest reefing moment :-[

Re: Here's my 120

Sorry fot the losses Bax. I've given up on Anthias for now. I have some Filamented Flasher Wrasses in QT for the 180 and they are much more active than I expected.

Dwarf Angels do much better in QT with some established live rock to pick on. Of course that means that you have to be willing to risk losing 10-20lbs of live rock. Flames are tough, I've lost several as well.

Re: Here's my 120

Thanks guys

I had LR in the QT for the Flame. On top of that, this was a well established Flame, Phyl had it for a while and traded it to Jose up north here who traded it to me in awesome condition. I just waited too long to introduce it to the the display and thing went south on me.

... so much for being a fish guy ::) One of these days, I'll get it right!

Re: Here's my 120

Bax I believe you have it right just a small set back at least they were in QT and not in the display well all hell broke loose (bright side?) Bobb

Re: Here's my 120

Sorry for your losses. I think my cleaner shrimp that I had in QT got sushied. Unless he escaped into the back chambers somehow.

I was wishing I had your camera today was out on the kayak and the dolphins down on the Navesink were 15-20 feet from me. Way cool but I think too big even for a 450. Hope they head south soon.

Re: Here's my 120

I have seen the dolphin in the river, although it's an amazing sight, I do hope they leave before winter.

Re: Here's my 120

Yep it was nice of them to stay for me today but it is time that they get out. Maybe with the cold weather coming in this weekend they will be motivated to go.

Re: Here's my 120

Bax, so sorry about your losses, too. :( Perhaps I missed it somewhere, but what do you think went wrong in your QT?

About the dolphins: If they don't move out to sea soon, I'm pretty sure they are doomed, so it would be great if someone could help guide them out so that they at least stand a chance to survive. Last I heard was they're afraid some bridge construction is preventing them from leaving. ???

Re: Here's my 120

Wendy

I just don;t know for sure, but I have to believe that after loosing the trio of anthias, some bacterial infection took hold. Maybe additional water changes would have helped? But I saw a little cloudy eye, began to treat with Melafix & PimaFix, went to furan, and the eye seemed to clear up,and the Flame looked bright, but never regained appetite and just succumbed one night

Re: Here's my 120

Well, it was another great day at the Swap! It kinda reminds me of going to a Greatful Dead show back in the day, just happy, smiling faces with far away gleems and a real warm communal feeling in air! 8)

I swore I'd be getting no SPS as I really want to move stuff around in the 120 and set up the frag tank first.

Broke that promiss by getting a sweet frag from merve and a great deal on a Hawkins enchinata. What can I say, I am obsessed! ::)

I did find a few other things I've been wanting in a real nice sun coral, some Tubs Blues, Nuclear Greens, purple deaths and Mohawks, along with a purple/red/green acan, my first one. I am thinking about making my 26 bow a polyp only tank. What can I say, I am obsessed! :p

Re: Here's my 120

It was great to meet you yesterday!

Nah -you're not obsessed. You are mildly "into it".

if you were obsessed - you'd be able to carry a 220 gallon down a flight of stairs with one other guy. ;D ;D ;D ;D
