I dunno Bax, you're not exactly a giant. Maybe you should get your helper to jump on it too, just to be sure!

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax

Haha, to be sure! I don't carry that large a load as my young helper Geo but he wasn't available Saturday morning for a test. Maybe later today I'll have him jump up there!

So, I have this convict tang in QT and he's sooo timid, I never see him. I put in nori on a clip and some rubber banded to a 1/2 piece of PVC as well. I do the PVC too because he's a rock picker and I've found that sometimes this helps get fish that feed this way to start picking at the nori. So that worked and , although I rarely see it, he devoures the nori I put out from both the clip and the pipe. That's good. But, I never see him eat the mysids, squid or other frozen I feed. Some of it, seems to disapear, but Iam fishing it out all the time, and pellets and flakes are ignored altogether.

So, yesterday, I created the tang burito!

I took a strip of nori (ON Seaweed selects is what I use) and spread some mysids on it, rolled it like sushi and squirted it with Zoe for good measure. Gave it 5 -10 minutes for the mysids to completely thaw and the Zoe to soak in and placed it in the tank.

Of course, he did not touch it while I was there, but this morning, it's all gone. Now, I have the piece of mind of knowing he's geting good nutrition and a vitamin enriched, meaty meal and not just filing up on veggies!

Right now, I am sooo happy! ;D

I just found my female orchid dottyback in one of the overflows! HA! :D

I have to scroll back through and see how long she's been MIA, but it's about six months or more. And, I looked in the overflows everyday for weeks hoping to see her!

Well I'll get her when I take the tank down, just like I got my Midas Blenny out of the OF in my 75! It'll be a few weeks, minimum, before that happens, but she looks great!

She looks great because she's been on a diet!

I am sure life in an overflow provides pretty good eating.

I had a Midas Blenny live for over 8 months in my 75 overflow and he looked perfect when I finally retrieved him during the move to the 120. Lots of pods and such in there. Maybe not a good hibitat for a tang or something along those lines but for a blenny or a dottyback? No competition and plenty of food coming over the top of the overflow most every day! :)

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax

Well, it's decided. We are moving. :p

The sale of my current building should close in June sometime and I'll be out of here by then. The new buyers want me to sign a lease, but will only commit to a year and have already told my current landlord that they have plans for my space for their own use. I found a building cross town that will suit me well and as a bonus , is much less cost wise. It's also a center unit so my utility bills should be much much lower in the winter as I have always rented stand alone buildings in the past. I need to grab this new space while it's available as there are few suitable buildings this close to my home. I work 70-80 hours a week on average, so traveling to go to work needs to be brief or I'll never see my kids!

My commute will go from 1 mile door to door to a whopping 2.6 miles! ..... Still not a bad commute!

The 375 could fit in the office, but I am really not sure I can maneuver it in there. A narrow doorway and tight turn into it may keep the tank out in an entrance way. :-\

If so, I may make it a light reef (i.e. easy, lower light corals) with fish. If so in my office and connected to the 375, the 120 reef and a 100 propagation tank would have to serve as my immediate eye candy. ;D

... But rust me, I'll make every effort to get the beast into my office! 8)

In either event, it will completely change all my sump, fuge, filtration plans. Each option would result in a completely different set up. Back to the drawing board! ::)

Brandon

In the long run, it'll be easier to make the upgrade with the new location as I can run the 120 to hold my critters right up to the bitter end. This will give me a chance to set up most of the new system and run it as long as possible, and using temporary holding tanks as little as possible, before adding the livestock.

I am working all week so I can't get over there, but next week I'll go by and do some serious measuring for the tank and revise my plans accordingly.

Over all given the economy, this is a good move. Moving to this smaller space now and reducing overhead will save someone's job in these tough times. And that, is very important to me. One of my guys has been with me 20 years between this company and the one I ran for someone else. We hire a lot of people who can't hack how hard we work, year round, out of doors, and in all but the worst weather. So I go through a few people each year. But the small group I have now are my keepers.

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax

I am sitting here with lease for the new space before me marking up the legalese and fretting about some hard decisions I'll have to make regarding my tank(s). ???

I am, at this point, very sceptical that I can get the tank into my office in one piece.

I've been looking back at my August 2006 start up of my 120, and I don't want to repeat that hasty move again. I spent over a year correcting the issues and redoing the set up. And, I am very, very pleased with my 120 today, in fact, except for the never completed canopy ::), it looks awesome right now ;D , but to go through that again in a large system is not appealing to me in the least. Not to mention, I do not want to put my critters through the stress either.

I am leaning toward, setting up temporay fish and coral holding tanks, completing my planned repairs to the 375 tank and stand, and , moving it over to the new building. Then, after the dust of the move settles, I can take my time and assess ways to move it into my office. I do not want to keep this beautiful tank in an entrance way and I've ruled that out.

If I just can't get it in, I can always sell the 375 and get a 4 or 6' x 36" deep tank that will easily fit in the office. As cool as that would be, that would be a bummer, as I really want to run this 8' tank! :-\

So, it looks like there'll be a bunch of frags available very soon. ;)

i'm sure you can figure something out.. i hope.. a 8 foot tank would be sweet..

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax

I am sure going to give it my best effort to get the 375 into the office.

Once it it over there, I'll have to go to some really good rental places and see what kind of lifts and moving karts are available for rent. A fall back would be to build a dolly just to wheel it in.

The issues in getting in are:

1) I have to widen the door by removing the jam and replacing it after it is in. The inside of the jam is 28", tank is 30" :p

2) The entrance way is 9' wide at its widest, but there is a angled wall the cuts it to 6' and that angle is directly across from the door to the office limiting the length I have to work with when turning the tank to enter the room.

3) the cieling in the enterance way is about 7'8", the tank is 8' + :p :p. So, to overcome 2)& 3), I'll have to have it set on an angle when turning to perpendicular to the door to go into the office.

4) This puppy weighs a ton! So physically holding it at any such angle would require several WWF wresslers, but, if I could get them to come, there would be no room for them to hold on to the tank and move it in to the office.

5) The stand is just a bit bigger then the tank! But at least it's a heck of lot less heavy!!!

So, you see my dilema.

But I am not giving up on this baby without a fight! 8)

I removed one of the cracked cross bracess yesterday, much easier to do then I expected. I have another I'd like to change. I had picked up some glass form another reefer that was supposed to be 1/2", but it is 3/8". I kept it anyway for other projects. But, now I have to go and get two pieces of 1/2" glass cut along with some 3/8" tie in pieces and silicone it all back together. After that I have to line the top of the canopy canopy with Mylar and add a back piece to the canopy. Add a fresh coat of paint on the entire stand and canopy and it is done except for a final water test.

... Oh and getting it into the office! ;)

Hehe! :D

I was just tak'n pics of frags for someone and noticed my clowns spawning!

I got some vid that looks pretty cool on the camera. I'll upload it later when I get home!

It's dead sexy! ;)

That female has a great pattern, nice fish. ( the larger is the female right? )

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax

Correct, the larger one is the female.

Cool stuff Bax. Are you trying to raise them?

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax

Steve, Bill, & ricwilli

She's a beautiful o. clown. and was one of my first pair of SW fish I ever bought for my old 26 g bow front.

This male has been with her for over three years. They paired in about 3 minutes, and have been with the RBTA forever too. I have moved them all three together with the nems rock three times now by scooping them all up in a bucket at once rock and all!

They have been spawning every 4ish weeks ever since I set up this 120. Although I have often seen fry at night darting arounfd the rock, I have no plans to try to rais them in a rearing set up, as I don;t have a rearing set up. But, if I do get this beast of a 375 into my new office, the 300-400 pounds of LR that will be in there may provide enough cover for a few to survive. Time will tell.
