Here's my Big Office System

I'll say!

I'll get you pic whores some pics soon!

Got my Glass Holes 1500 GPH kit today and a care package from Premium Aquatics with BW Coral Lazerus and Neo Mag to recharge my Ca Rx and 4 x Korilia 1400s to play with for supplemental flow. At 5.5 watts these are great supplemental flow I'll amnage them with my RK.

So it may be a day late but it's here!

Here are some pics of my recent aquisitions to destract you from the huricane news.

Here's the Glass Holes 1500 GPH overflow. This is a really nicely made product for the cost, I'm very pleased. Now I just need to grow a pair before it's time to drill the glass!

Here's the Orphek. I've just set it atop the frag tank canopy for now. What a well made light fixture in every detail!

The ballast is remote and this really keeps the canopy cool. It's dead quiet too!

Here's the buisness end with lights off

Orphekoff.jpg

Here it is lit

Orphekon.jpg

Here's a view from under water looking up at the lights. The two lights that look "out" are just a fluke from the water movement. You can see there are only a few blues comared to many LED fixtures.

Orphekstraightup.jpg

The light is very white. Here it is next to a ReefLux 12k 250w MH on the right. The ReefLux looks yellow! I have to move the Orphek to the right over the frags and really see how I like the look right on SPS. These Orpheks are designed to grow coral so they are very different from the Chinese lights we've all been using. I may add some blue LED supps but I need to stare at it some more first

Here's a closer shot and you can really see how crips a light it is.

If the tank hasnt come in yet deepblue might be able to drill the tank if the shop sends them the templatefor the GH overflow

Just love those pictures Bax!

Glass-holes....the best. Recommend getting the cover if your lights illuminate the inside of the overflow. I actually have a spare if you want it...Free!

I did buy the cover for the GH overflow.

I also bought the hole saw set so I have five sizes so I can drill all the support tanks as needed as well.

So I'll just practice on some glass pieces I have first and then start with my sumps, and fuges and such. My display will be the last tank I drill so that I have a good level of confidence first!

Hows everyone's power holding out? I set up a generator to be at the ready at my office. As far as I know my shop did not loose power. Now he only road there is closed! So I cant go chech for a few hours yet.

I do run the moonlights. Next to the Chinese fixtures they are very white. The Chinese fixtures are greater than 50% blue. I really love the light though! It is just amazing how cool running the fixture is!

My internet has been out at the office and will be until the weekend. Phone service is hit or miss but working more then it is not. We had the power off for litterally for just a few minutes at the office. It's crazy that at my house I didn't even need to rake the lawn! Main Street Bloomingdale was a raging river till yesterday!!! Trees down all over town, and my yard looks freshly mowed! I feel really lucky!

We are taking my daughter to college for her freshman semester tomorrow morning ... early ... so I'am going to go to have a beverage and cry now!

Well I survived taking her to college ... Barely!

Now, I can turn my attention to finishing the family room and prepping the space for the tank project. I really can not wait to have my reef at home again! Finally!!!

I need to get some more salt. I've been using IO or Reef Crytals for ever adding some elements as I see the need.

I'm very interested in the ESV salt system.

Is anyone else using this and how do you like it?

Also in planing my new set up, I am weighing the benefits of feeding the skimmer by a dedicated pump or from the drain. My concern for using the drian is stability of flow. A dedicated pump really adds stability.

Thoughts?

If you can hold out for a little while, AO is having their anniversary sale and their salt prices look very nice. I would give the Aquavitro a shot. ESV some people love but it is quite a few steps and measurements to get it right. I would rather be a bit lazier and know I am still getting all the trace elements I need.

Bax,
I'm using esv and I like it. It mixes clear and use is almost as fast as the dry components can dissolve.

Switching and getting use to the 4 parts isn't that bad. I use a scale to measure everything. I mix to a higher salinity and the add ro water to bring the salinity to the correct levels. For instance my wc is about 9 gallons so I add 10 gallons worth of components over the course of the week and the add water as needed. I do it over the week just so I'm not waiting for the dry components to mix in. But if the water is to temp the 10 gallons of part A mixes in about 20 mins with heavy water movement.

The prices of esv are coming down so I think it makes it a even better by. You can also deviate from recommended the liquid part 3/4 to get cal and alk to your liking. I havent seen a need to do this.

Thanks for the comments, a while back I was all set to try the BW salt mix where you add Mortens salt from HD or Lowes, but you can't find it anywhere so that's why I'm considering the ESV.

I like the idea of dialing in my own elements and ALk based upon my own testing and needs. This is similar to what i do now. I usually use 50/50 IO & Reef Crystals and still add a table spoon of BWs Kalk+2.

I'd like to report to you all how I've got so much done this past week...... But I can't say that, I got no where!

Last week I was on a job site and managed to impale my wrist on a thorne of a Honey Locust tree. Turns out I'm allergic to the thornes of Honey Locust trees .... Very alergic! My wrist swelled like a grapefruit and the joint pain was real bad ... I mean real, real bad! The swelling has gone way down, but I still can't really use my right hand fully, which, being right handed is a bit of an issue. So, sanding the last few sections of dry wall just hasn't happened.

I have a very full schedule this weekend, but I should be back to it soon after.
